I noticed that Red Bull only painted David Coulthard's car in the one-off Wings for Life livery, and that Mark Webber drives in the regular team colours.

Is that even legal? I remember the FIA adding a rule that says something along the lines that a team must paint its cars in similar colours, after British American Racing launched two liveries, for their Lucky Strike and 555 brands, for 1999.

It was allowed by all the other team owners, from an article on the autosport frontpage:
Although teams are supposedly banned from running cars with different liveries, Coulthard has welcomed the support of rival team bosses in approving his plan for the weekend.
"When BAR tried to get permission to run two different car liveries they were told they could not do that," Coulthard said at Interlagos.
"But I think what it does show, and it takes the agreement of all the other team principals - who were the ones banning it for BAR - it shows that when it is a genuine charitable cause then the team bosses do have a heart.

I don't see what the big deal is with cars running different colourschemes.
Teams should be free to raise sponsorship in whatever way they see fit.

It is a charity campagne. In his last race, it is David's personal wish to do this and if it involves charity F1 is still human enough to allow this. On the record it's not allowed, but if everyone involved agrees these initiatives in the last race of the year should be possible.

Of course I have no problem at all with Coulthard's initiative. In fact, I applaud it, 'cause I quite like the colour scheme.
On another note: if money is allegedly so hard to come by, these days, why not allow teams to run different liveries?

It is clearly illegal - Penalise Hamilton immediately...............

Spot on.
F1 used to have teams with multiple liveries - in fact I recall March were a prime example of this. Who ran that team again?
Honda are also running on charity. They should run different liveries too, just to get some attention.

It is only paint and tape. DC if someone from current drivers deserves that spotlight once more.
NASACR allow teams to run different colours and also change them between races. It's one of the things I find annoying with NASCAR since I started watching this year. It takes me half an hour to work out who the hell everyone is (I'm still learning the car numbers).

Why not put a target on his car?
You know someone's going to ram the f-er...
Not another white car... jeez

That would have made him too easy a target for Kazuki to hit him.

Strangely enough, my Asperger's dictates that each car should be much more easily identified as different, so this Aspie likes it!
In the interest of full disclosure, my Asperger's is self-diagnosed.

He won't have a car to get a podium, but he'll have a car having some impact in another way in the last race, quite a move by DC, smart way to bowl out.

I'd like to see all the teams run one charity based livery at a race of their choice every year. It would endear F1 to a whole lot more people as well as doing a lot of good generally. One car at one race, that's it.

Isn't Honda running a charity livery every race?

Red Bull have done it before as well ( the pictures on the car one was brilliant, if a little messy)
I'm trying to figure out why they gave it brown front wing elements though - can't figure out if it's a joke of some sort.

In truth, yes I suppose it is. But I think this is untenable in the long terms and I am willing to bet that they will move back to a more traditional livery next year.

I think so, too. Didn't they sign a deal with Petrobras for 2009 and on? Maybe they'll finally have a title sponsor, too: 'Petrobras Honda Racing F1 Team' or something.
