Maybe something for formula one too instead of the quite boring street circuit?
Singapore could hold a MotoGP round as early as 2011, according to series boss Carmelo Ezpeleta.

The head of MotoGP promoter Dorna revealed that he has signed an agreement to stage a round of the world championship in Singapore when a planned purpose-built circuit in Changi is completed.

Ezpeleta told Singapore newspaper Today that he expects the new facility to be up and running in the next three years.

"We have signed an agreement with a promoter to stage a round of the motorbike world championship in Singapore," he said.

"But it depends when the permanent track will be completed. I understand it will be up in three years' time, so there could be a race as early as 2011, if not 2012.

"Asia is important to MotoGP's growth and Singapore is at the centre of it, that's why we want to hold a round there. But my agreement is subject to the track being built."

Singapore government official Teo Ser Luck said at last month's Formula One grand prix in Singapore that 20 hectares have been set aside for the Changi project and that more land could be released if necessary.

And the country's sports council CEO Oon Jin Teik told Today: "The Changi track is a major component of our motorsports industry development plan and it is intended to be funded by the private sector.

"The current financial climate will have an impact on the bidders we will be able to attract, but weaker players are unlikely to participate while stronger ones will need to put together even better proposals. Based on the feedback we're receiving, potential investors are still upbeat about the project."

Depends. If they design the track for bikes it will most likely be crap for F1 cars.
And i quite like the street circuit at Singapore. It is wide, fast and bumpy with some cool features. It is certainly not Spa, but i would much rather have that track than another generic Tilkedrome.

Let's stay at the street circuit first, i quite liked it.

the reason f1 went to a street circuit was because bernie wanted to bring F1 to the fans in the middle of the city

Change coming in Singapore

"The word on the street in Singapore is that the city is studying alternative venues for the Grand Prix, because the disruption caused in the downtown area has not gone down well with the locals. The plan is to incorporate the race into a new “Sports Hub”, which is being developed at Kallang, not far from the track, slightly further out of town. This would reduce the traffic disruption considerably while still allowing large crowds to be delivered by the MRT underground network, as there will be a new Stadium station built...."

There's nothing to like about it in terms of the layout, reminds me of Pheonix. If they ran it at daytime maybe it would be better. At night it's so bright on the track the exterior of the circuit becomes virtually soulless and pitch black. Honestly all these new Marina street circuits Valencia, Yas Marina and Singapore are ****ing stupid.

Singapore as a street track is far more interesting than most of the other new tracks, leave it as it is.

do Singapore have enough land? how much sea they can reclaim?

I struggle to see where they could fit a credible GP circuit into this area.

Maybe they'll do a flat oval...

In regards to the proposed circuit around Changi airport... I'll believe it when I see it.

I like Singapore, it's cool to see the cars racing around the streets. I just think that they could get rid of some of the corners at the end of the lap. If they can just straighten out the 2nd part of the last chicane (corners 20 & 21) it would be very fun.

Love Singapore as a City, roll on the next two weeks.

Having been there twice, I find that the television broadcast doesn't do the city justice. It's one of my favourite places in the world.

Of the "new" circuits it´s my favourite. I really love it and I consider one of the most difficult circuits for the driver.

I would like to enjoy a race this year there... on the wet. Should be very tricky !
bourbon
interesting. It is a great race, even if it does not get justice by the camera angles...

The earlier practice sessions show how great the venue looks at dusk.

Should be great, so long as Tilke doesn't design it, what with his usual "stencil" or easy-shape-CAD tools.

Unfortunately, he seems to have exclusivity on designing tracks. Shame. He wouldn't recognise "natural features" if you smacked him senseless around the head with it.

up.gif I second that.

The street circuit isn't bad. I kinda like it, it has some character (maybe it's more about being a nigh race, but still the circuit isn't that bad).

Ironically, Singapore is one of the few new F1 venues that would look better in the day time.

If you like mid-afternoon torrential downpours.

It's pretty at night as well. I swear they don't believe in white lighting there.

This.

They should go back to Thomson Road. That would make the drivers work for their money. smile.gif
SpaMaster
Nah, they don't care about the tracks. They want all the skyscrapers, lights, lights that change colours, etc. I forgot to mention - the part where the track goes underneath the stands. That's great racing!

Or alternatively, they could ply their trade down the streets of Geylang.
