You should have been watching seriously since the early nineties, like I did (before then I watched on and off). Then you would have seen domination, in the form of Williams in 1996. Or you would have seen Ferrari produce a dog of a car in 1997 that the brilliance of Mickey the Shoe managed to haul into a championship fight (many attribute this also to the loss of Adrian Newey to Mclaren). I'm definitely not a Ferrari or Schuey fan - Mclaren all the way since I started watching when Senna was around. Even so, Mclaren produced several dogs in the mid-nineties, and then started becoming competitive when Newey worked his magic with the new 1998 rules. I therefore think Red Bull might do quite well this year in the hands of the excellent, and underrated, Webber and the much talked about Vettel.

Too bad i wasn't even in this world when McLaren really dominated. But i have a good feeling, doubt macca will dominate but I genuinely think they're finally making fast cars consistently and reliably. They were sorta on and off before. 17 hours to go.

It will be stunning, I have no doubt about that, McLaren have the tendency to produce stunning cars and with their great cooling system, expect a heavily streamlined F1 car. The interesting part will be the wheelbase, the rear tyres will be eaten alive this season so they may want to look into it.
I'm basing my thoughts on three things - firstly, they have the "odd-number" team designing the MP4-24, with Fry leading it. Secondly, they are the furthest developed with KERS (supposedly). Thirdly, even with a low-downforce Mclaren (with no ancillaries attached like bargeboards and the sidepod-shoulder wing) and with an '09 front wing, they were on the pace at Jerez, even if they were slightly behind the 2008-spec STRs.

Obviously the test in Portugal will be a good early indicator of pace.

Wasn't the odd number thing discredited after last season, with a better 2nd driver, Mclaren could have taken the WCC.

Only because the evens team was sured up with the influx of a few key aerodynamic staff. Anyway, the MP4-23 was not revolutionary, it was merely a logical evolution of the '22, with most of the ideas refined in the windtunnel, rather than new ideas being implemented (with the MP4-19, for example).

I hope the McLaren is quick.

It will no-doubt be sex to look at, McLaren have been producing beautiful cars for the past 2/3 years now, I think it has something to do with the paint smile.gif

I'm a bit concerned at the lack of a real insight into post-Newey McLaren, since this is the most major aero shakeup for a long time.

We shall see.

thats the beauty, we have 10 neweys now, smile.gif joke by side i think the general impression is that one newey doesnt cut it, a f1 car is to complex to handle for one person, but admitted he has a lot of great ideas

C´mon.....................I can´t wait! love.gif clap.gif I hope it will be a real beauty and most important - fast and reliable!

Also, Lets hope Toyota don't send anyones KERS development down the pan, just because they couldn't be arsed to develop it.

Mine is showing 20mins. It seems like everyones' countdowns are showing different times! Does anyone have an official launch schedule with a specific time? I hate these damn inconsistent countdowns!

Ok, Just to confirm, I am in GMT and it is currently 10:12.

So if it does start at 11AM GMT - it doesn't start for another 48 minutes.

Pics are a good hour and 48 minutes away if posted at 12AM

Looking foward to seeing the McLaren.

Don't like either team, but let's face it McLaren and Ferrari are the only 2 cars that really matter in the big picture.
