Spoken to Lewis who thinks 15th is a realistic starting place on the grid. He was very relaxed tho. Trying to do the traditional McLaren ...

Yep. This one is really just covered with two small pieces and it also extends around the crash structure, like the BGP`s.

I read this article and it says that the an Abudhabi royal family paid 9billion euros for about 9% of is it Mclaren or mercedes? That would put the value of the company at nearly 100 billion euros....surely it must be mercedes?????

I think the article mentioned 2 billion euro...

Seriously, suppose those 2 coverings fall off during the race, would there be a penalty?

I'm not sure, because even if it come off and BGP diffuser is illegal, the Mac one won't be illegal, just because it'll become double-decker, as it is inside the allowed height.

Another, even if the BGP diffuser is illegal they might be allowed to race with, as others too, till a defined date, probably the first European GP, Barcelona.

Why is it a real test? Most McLaren fans have been saying that the car is not good enough to score points. Nothing new there.

I wonder what Mac plan to do with the diffuser? If the double decker is not excluded for other teams and it is looking like they will get no points anyway perhaps they will join the double decker club in the hope of picking up some points. After all if the diffuser is later banned they will not have lost anything. But if they think that they may be good enough to pick up a point or two they may decide to stick with the current setup....

But how do we know that this is a blanking plate. I know it looks different but i have never heard of a team using "blanket plates" on their rear diffusers before. Is this just pure speculation or is there a source?

Only source is that James Allen has said that 'some' other teams have copied Brawn's diffuser design already and since, Renault, Ferrari, Red Bull and BMW have filed protests. That leaves Mclaren, Force India and Toro Rosso. Not sure Toro Rosso can do the diffuser thing because of there rear suspension geometry ie pull rod instead of push and then there is that big gap in the middle of the central section of the macca diffuser. So in answer to your question, there is no source categorically stating that Macca have a double decker diffuser and yes it is speculation but speculation fueled by a few bits of info that give the theory credence. But it remains a theory never the less.

However, despite all the diffuser debacle, Lewis doesn't think they'll qualify above fifteenth and will be lucky to get a point this weekend so I doubt that they'll be quick whatever changes they've made. frown.gif

Only the end piece seem to be solid, the rest of the top edge and the middle part seem to be removable

I've got to say, this shambles really is incredible and beyond my belief. How can they go from fighting for WDC to not even being able to qualify above 15th - WTF! eek.gif

Are they really that clueless and, it lends credence to Max's view that the Ferrari IP plagarism was material in their performance over the past 2 years or so.

I am livid

i suppose you can notice a difference in the weave of the Carbon Fibre...still I'm not entirely convinced that it'll pop out, I'll believe it when I see it.

Was just about to mention that dude. Can't see a seam (or duct tape blush.gif ) . So how can the middle part come off without snapping the ends completely off. Maybe those holes are screw holes? lol So something is to be bolted on.

Funnily enough, the last time a World Champion team took such a nosedive in the next year, that team was Ferrari. stoned.gif
