The Scuderia Ferrari did not participate in the South African GP, on 02 January 1967.

The cars weren't ready in time - they had rebuilt their "racing department" over the winter.

....and it cost them dearly the following year too, as the team didn't anticipate the fuel vaporisation problems that the altitude would cause for them at Kyalami;(everyone else did, but nobody told them!) Amon started on 50 gallons and had to stop twice to re-fuel!

That's what Motor Sport said. Autosport said they demanded too much starting money: £6,500 plus air freight from Italy.

I bet it was a metal workers' strike.
