I apologise, I was not aware of that! Likewise; I also apologise for spoiling your thread!

Looks like the Mpiti. Originally powered by a 1100 Renault, but now using a 16TS engine after restauration, I believe.

What is the English translation of Mpiti, which is clearly a word in one of the many South African languages (according to Wikipedia these include isiNdebele, isiXhosa and isiZulu, Sepedi, Sesotho, Setswana, siSwati, Tshivenda, Xitsonga, Fanagalo, Khoe, Lobedu, Nama, Northern Ndebele, Phuthi, and San).

I'm not sure...the Zulu and Sotho guys I work with here don't know, they know of an Imphithi (said the same way as mpiti) and it refers to a small buck. I will investigate...

Could it be the obvious small antelope - a springbok?

No, it's smaller than a Springbok....it's probably something like the Duiker, which is a small antelope.

How about Impala..

This thread belongs on the National Geographic forum ambivalent.gif The Impala and the Springbok are similar in size, the Duiker is about knee high which fits in with what the guys described to me as a Duiker.....

Mpiti...named after the Blue Duiker (smallest antelope in South Africa). The Mpiti in the photo is not the original one, but the 2002 version with slightly modified bodywork. The original Mpiti was rammed into disuse by Ben Pon's Porsche at the 1967 Kyalami 9h race.

I read in another forum that Terry rebuilt the car but changed the body moulds as he thought the original shape was damn ugly. I'm not sure whether "rebuilt" means he started from scratch or whether he just fixed up the damaged original Mpiti and put a different body on....how much can you confirm Heironymus?

At what?

Just because you've won a Test series against a sub-standard Australian cricket team that doesn't necessarily follow .... tongue.gif

I do have some pics from SPRINGBOK SERIES and can scan and sent it to you, if you wish. The two cars do differ a bit...roof and tail section.

PS. Monsieur Vitesse...thanks for reminding us of the cricket (don't forget the rugby either). For one moment I though Roger39 referred to the state of corruption and crime in dear old SA. wink.gif

And then sadly only when it was parked on the grass verge trackside after the clutch had gone. Some luck. source, the wonderful Sunset on Kyalami which I recommend once again as a circuit record and a wonderful picture archive.

Marius, any shots of the car would be welcome via e mail
