According to
this article, there is a US based F1 team in the works. They're aiming to start in 2010. I will try to translate some of the article later.
http://www.usf1.com/
Says something about them speaking to Honda back in 08 after the Canadian GP but nothing materialized.
They wanna setup HQ in North Carolina with a factory in Bilbao, Spain. Have a wind tunnel at their disposal, that an other F1 team is already using.
I`ll believe it when I see it, on the grid.
One question come into my mind... Is Ken Anderson / Peter Wondsor a better manager/team leader than Nick Fry?
Peter would make a better public figure, if the team is to let Ross run technical strategic side of it....
no it's not honda related according to that article.
To be honest, I'll be amazed if this team makes the grid. I can't see Peter Windsor being any better than those that have tried and failed.
According to the "story" they make everything themselves. Engine, chassis, etc.?
Must be a joke ...

Very odd timing.. (crisis+lack of F1 race at the goddamn continent at the moment)
It's a GMM related article. Move along now...

Nice idea, but I can't see it happen.
Where will the cash come from, at a time when the American car industry in particular has never been harder stretched.

If not, they're already too late for 2010.

I remember this story. This is nothing new, and probably dead since the recession arrived.

How much does it cost to buy a web domain and run it? $5.00
Has to be a joke. Maybe Windsors contract is close at Speed TV and he is using this as a ploy to get a few more dollars. "give me a raise or I will form a new Formula 1 team".
Yah that must be it.

The domain was bought in Dec 00! The image on that web page dates back to Sep 08 as well, so it's nothing new?
Website needs some work. Obviously.
It is then a pitching only, perhaps.

Autosport now reporting this grand plan.
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/73121
But what value is there for an American F1 team?
There are no North American races and we keep reading how F1 is small beer in America anyway.
Aren't some NASCAR teams struggling for cash too?
And how will this affect Windsor's position as a journalist and as the official FIA man at those unilateral press conferences?

I am cautiously cynically doubting that this will happen, and if it is to happen then 2010 does not sound possible.
But...
Value - They will be the only fish in that pond, no other US entry for the past 25 years, the media will likely forget Beatrice and write all about Penske's efforts. They will stand out as unique, and there is a LOT of money in the US even with the current economic situation, if the other story on the front page is correct, then a budget will be Usd 50 milllion next year, that is doable.
US races - We would see a return FAST were there to be an USA team.
Cash - Every one can spend more than they have and need, this have been proven through time, and will be proven again, the excess of the past 15 years are over, all teams (and business) need to reign in and get back to core values. I think that funding can be found, if it is a serious effort to join the F1 grid. There is a LOT of interest in F1 in the US.
Windsor - We all change jobs on occasion.
But let's see what happens.

Wouldn't his current gigs be untenable if he was touting around for sponsors and staff for his own F1 team? Which would mean he'll be off air and out of the FIA pressers from Austraia wouldn't it?

Force India F1. USF1. Did anyone mention A1GP yet?
Is not this a gesture-plot by Bernie to Honda Motor Co., and the potential buyer of the team? For sure the situation for them would look different with this story. Funny that Peter Windsor name is associated as well as the web domain owned by Kevin.

I'm always quite suspicious of any business which starts with a logo on a webpage and nothing else whatsoever of substance, including quotes from any of those involved. Seems an odd way to launch any enterprise.

Wasnt it the 'phoenix group' that did the same a few years ago?
Cant remember if it was to buy Arrows or Prost...

It was Prost.
Some fly by nighter bought the remains of the Prost GP team from French liquidators, and argued that they'd also bought the team's F1 entry.
The ever-shady hand of Tom Walkinshaw was in there too.
The 'team' made it to Malaysia but weren't allowed to enter the country.

Indeed, the domain registry record shows that the website for this proposed US F1 team was created on 14 December 2000 so clearly it has gone nowhere in eight years....
Very odd timing.
I'd understand if they went 2009 and tried to have the huge Honda facilities at bargain price.... but starting from scratch in 2010?

2000 was the peak of the internet bubble, every reasonable domain name was taken up to those days. People would sit on them and wait for someone to buy the name for a bunch millions. One guy I know had senna.com.br and made some good money on that (he did have it as a family name, despite not being directly related to AS)
The age of the domain is no hint for how long ago the enterprise started. If ever.
Fantastic news! I hope this goes ahead, but I wonder at the wisdom of basing the outfit in the US, that's a lot of air mileage for the races in Europe & the Middle East.
I really hope this goes ahead, more for F1's sake than anything.

It is kind of like Toyota or Honda basing themselves in Japan.
This all seems very pie in the sky to me.
I'm sure someone in the world of motorsport journalism has Peter Windsor's number and will give him a call to spread some illumination on this story...

I'd love for this to happen, if for nothing else but for the removal of Peter Windsor from the journalism circle...

Ah, I get you now. And I agree, I think it is a toe-in-shallow-water pipe dream. I'm surprised Windsor is happy to be associated with the project at this stage.
Anything that gets USA back into F1 is good in my book.

Me too,
as long as they don't want to put only American drivers in the seats (go for the best, not the nationalities!)
But first I have a bigger wish for the rescue of the ex-Honda F1 Team then this project!

It would be lovely if Mr."second phase turn" Windsor would stop interviewing in PC´s

I cannot stand that brown noser.
