Am signed up, have been waiting for this for weeks.
Our second season is going to be better than the first! (But not as good as Brawn's! - loving that you've changed your loyalty from BMW Scot)

I am currently playing the field, as it were - I was a Ferrari fan for 13 years but Kimi and Flippy just bore me to tears so I had to move on. BMW didn't quite stir my wedding veg so it's Brawn time.
Yay, I did ok in this last year despite completely forgetting to change my line-up until Silverstone onwards

Last year was a battle all the way to last race, Tachyos had a mighty fight with le chat noir, and Skodillac GLS become league champion.
Let's hope it'll be that close at the top again.
This year with new regs, and being in the dark on how teams relate to each other performance-wise more than previous years, it'll be game of chance (and budget!) to make the right pick for the first race.

Yes a shame last year that both Tachyos and I were equally distracted at highly important times.
It meant I had a proper gamble to catch those ahead, while Tachyos played it safe. Don't know how many millions that cost me in TV revenue. But we're here again, with full concentration, making an impact from the start - i trust!

Yes. You can change anything you like before Qualifying begins of the first race, for free.

Indeed you were braver at the end, and Monza could've been my weekend had I gone with Vettel instead of Raikkonen (the "safe" bet) as I thought of doing, but chickened out on the the risk. How sweet it would've been....
Thus, I reasoned at the very end that the "safe" bets should now be safe since they can't let me down all the time!
Yeah, let's hope we can stay focused and disciplined all thru the season this time, and not let dull and tedious pastimes like e.g. being with girls who wanna be at the beach the whole day, divert our attention from what truly matters!
This manager wouldn't survive yet another scandal of that magnitude..

I have joined this and look forwards to the fun of 2009
but something I cant work out...
its mathematically impossible to have any of the better end cars. even if you have the cheapest engine and drivers its still impossible to buy the top end cars.
unless I have misunderstood how it works? probably have never played anything like this before.

As the season progresses you receive more money to play with following results based on your current team selection. So you can trade in a duff driver for someone else, or swap your engine etc.
The only fault I have with F1 Manager is that 3/4 through the season, all going well, you'll reach a plateau where it is nearly impossible not to rake in the money and have a decent line up.

at that point you work out what others are doing, and do something different.
both tachyos and i thought about vettel, but played safe, then i gambled on alonso and won, but then changed back to heikki or something awful instead of sticking with alonso for teh second win. i also had kubica in teh car for his.
when you've got money its all about working out the top places, when you haven't, its about the most likely to score

Brawn car vs. Brawn drivers pricing seems very interesting. If BGP cars fly in Melbourne Park like they have in Barcelona and Jerez testing I think everyone in their right mind will have exactly the same team setup in the 1st GPs of the season.

That's bloody difficult. I don't seem to be able to have any of the top line cars or engines, since that doesn't leave enough money for drivers. And vice versa.
Well, I'll have to see what hapens throughout the season.

I feared this season's game could be spoiled by Brawn's form, but now I see you cannot build an all-Brawn team so it's ok

That's the whole point of the game. You need to study the points system.
Some words on strategy. First you need to select a combination of bottom feeders, midfield units and top components that give you a steady stream of revenue & points. Then you need to pick the right time to upgrade once you can afford it as you get less for your drivers or components selling them than you spent when you bought them - the more you have to fiddle the more you lose to the teams that don't. Will you wait until top tier parts or go for upper midfield ones as a stepping stone is another key point. Then in the latter half everyone in the running can afford everything, but the question is which driver will bring the absolute top score at a given race?
Basically you really, really need to pick a good team in the beginning as you will lose both points and money if you don't. Last season I was able to get McLaren & Ferrari drivers and parts 1-2 races earlier than most other teams, which is pretty much why I did pretty well.
We think we're real F1 geniuses here in the board, but despite winning the Atlas league I think I barely cracked top-200 in the general classification.
Well, BMW "Zauber" has signed up again.
Last year barely finished in the top 25%.
Ranking by % would be helpful.
This year also joined the Atlas League.
Only $130 mil.

I need another 11 mil.
It sucks to be poor.

I guess there will be the free practice to make the final decision- I think the important thing to establish is whether when it comes to the crunch Brawn will be faster than BMW at the beginning of the season. Team Plymouth is hoping to for a better first 4 races than last year whereby it was playing catch up to fight into the top 10 for the rest of the season, thanks to sticking too long with Nico Rosberg..

Indeed it does require skill/balls/luck!
I have edited my post above, the one with the final standings from last year, and added the points total after race 1 and after race 2, so you all can see how the eventual top finishers performed initially.
Unfortunately I don't have the statistics from all top 30 finishers from that early in the season, as you can see by the gaps.
Skodillac GLS was clearly on it from race 1, and many of the top 10 finishers were top ten already after 2 races. However, if things start out badly it is still possible to turn it around, as Scotracer (Ecosse Racing) showed, almost taking the title after an abysmal start! Team Dank and Team Plymouth also climed many places after bad starts or slumps. Then there were some managers who seemed to lose interest, like BEx who was actually leading by 22 points after 4 races.
Usually it wasn't until race 4 or so that it was possible to buy really good drivers, and up until then relying on a Ferrari/McLaren chassis or engine to get safe points.
So if you have a bad start, remember it's not over until it's over!
Team Plymouth Press Release
-------------------------
Following the success of BGP in winter testing, Team Plymouth has signed both their drivers along with the Red Bull engine and Force India chassis to make a formidable line-up for the shortly upcoming Australian Grand Prix. Manager Will will be expecting them however to live up to their billing in Friday practice and there is no room for underperformance....the performance of Williams vs Red Bull will be crucial. Team Plymouth is however wary of Williams since sticking with Nico Rosberg for too long in the first few races last year and paying the price by plunging down the standings early on.
Damn tricky practice eh- really wavering between Rosberg and Barrichello!
Have now changed back and forth from RedBull to Williams for the 10th time.

Good job I stuck with Button and Barrichello though somewhat annoyed with myself for switching from Red Bull to Williams engine at the last minute, if I had stuck with my original team I would have got the highest possible score obtainable from qualifying!

Yaeh a shame about the engine, did the same thing there!
However, I'm confident for the race, Rosberg is quite a racer, we'll get a better picture when we know the fuel loads

Thanks, seems that there is going to be some close racing. The one thing that pushed me towards Williams is that they have better reliability than Red Bull so we shall see in the race....I guess what might differentiate us in future is whether some of us decide to accumulate all Brawn components in case of easy points while others may try to keep options open to cover reliability.
