I am looking for information on a driver, J.E.S. Jones. Supposedly drove MGs between 1930's-1950's. Any assistance would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Michael

Bristol/West Country, I'd guess as the MGCC SW Section has a JES Jones Memorial Trophy and JES Jones (1780 MG) won his class at the 1938 Backwell hilclimb
1780 is quite a lot for a competition MG.
JES Jones was a sucessfull pre-war trials driver. He competed in his own cars before joining the "works" Cream Cracker team in 1936. That year he drove JB 7525. In 1937 he drove ABL 964 & BBL 80 in 1938. Alan Grassam has written a book on the pre-war trials MGs, which is probably one of your best sources of information.

Also - the 1780 might be a mis-print. in 1938 the cars ran at 1708cc by using WA pistons in the VA engines I think, but the push rod engines are not my strong point, so I could be wrong.

Thanks for the information so far. I recently acquired a period photograph of Jones and was looking for some biographical information. Every little bit helps.
