Ron Dennis pays tribute to Paul Newman
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/70931
When trying to access story while logged in with my user id, I am unable to see any text of the story on screen, just a blank body.
But when I logout and try to access the stroy it is viewable without issue.
Have checked this with IE7 and Firefox, both show identical results.

I really enjoyed Singapore this weekend.
The new ignore feature worked like a dream.
My experience was not hampered by the nutters who post insidious and nasty comments
I also added a few names to my list as the event went on and it seemed to work fine
Thanks so much for this...I was really dreading not being able to enjoy my favourite place on the internet anymore.
I could not however click on a posters name while the live race thread was up to reveal their profile, as I could in the weather thread, for example. I am using Safari 2.0 on an Intel Mac.
Cheers

Friday, 05:30 GMT: We are currently experiencing some technical problems with the server farm that hosts autosport.com Live.
Support has been requested and we hope to restore normal service before the second practice session for the Chinese Grand Prix. I will provide further updates in this thread. Please accept my apologies for this interruption to the service.
Unfortunately, the servers remain unreachable and the practice session is about to get underway. Efforts are ongoing to restore the service.

ok :\
Sorry folks, we will resume service as soon as possible, info here:

Once again, apologies for the continuing outage to autosport.com Live, which is still being investigated.
Normal service has been resumed. The problem related to a networking issue between our servers and the internet.
Just wondering whether you guys have anything new planned for this year.
Here's hoping for a successful second year with autosport.com's Live service!

We are currently discussing how the live section of the site will run for the season. The best advice I can give you is that when there is news on future events, it will appear on the index page.

Note: Due to a technical issue, live forum comments will not return until Friday practice.
Bummer...
Had a cute little post all ready and everything.

Sorry, but this was unavoidable. I am flat-out restructuring the server architecture for the whole site. Live and the forums are now physically located on opposite sides of London. I am urgently building a new link between the two, and it will be sorted for Friday.

maybe it's time to go forward. autosport really sucks. no responses no live contends, just plain death. mostly are worried with bbc's coverage.
Sorry, perhaps you have misunderstood me. We have a genuine technical reason for the live forum being temporarily unavailable on the Australian weather forecast. It will return in time for Friday practice.
The weather forecast typically only gets a handful of forum comments, therefore other work - such as the F1 season guide - had to be prioritised ahead of this issue but be assured that the forum commenting is a core part of Live and will be back for the on-track action.

already understand it's possibly a bug.
or not. can you see the life thread and comment on it? i can“t.

You clearly don't understand. It doesn't mean the site is being refurbished... its where the servers are being based, if I understand Hack correctly, some of the servers are located in different places and need to be linked urgently.

stop whinging, it's a genuine issue, they're working to fix it ready for friday practice, it's not dead, it's not rubbish, and not being able to comment a couple of times on the weather thread isn't the end of the world

I would really like an 'Ignore Thread' option, please...
In the past these threads were arranged in the "Race Live" sub-board, but now we got no places to share the latest update or links before the Friday Practice.
So could we have a sticky thread for this in the main board before each race during the F1 season ?
Thanks !
SB,
The RC Live sub-forum was closed part-way through 2008, as the text commentaries and weather forecasts moved to a new 'live' section on autosport.com -
http://live.autosport.com/
The weather forecasts, like all the other commentaries, are open for forum members to post their thoughts and opinions on the relevant topic. The live debate option on the Australian GP weather is currently disabled, due to a technical issue, but this will be solved prior to Friday practice.
In the meantime, a thread on the potential Australian GP weather is already in progress in RC -
http://forums.autosport.com/showthread.php...threadid=106921
The live forum has now resumed service on the Australian GP weather post.
This is necessarily a temporary solution to a temporary problem. The forums will be joining Live over in our new server facility shortly after the Malaysian GP. In the meantime, the link I've implemented should allow things to run as normal, however do post here if there are any problems.

As always, thanks for your work! I can't wait for the FP1 with 'hardcore smokers' on the live chat
BTW, where have the live threads (in the old format) gone?
edit: live forum works smoothly

my posts in the live section won't come up, it says "your post can't be accepted at this time"
That's unfortunate. I can see a small number of posts failed to go through and I've added some extra error logging to try and find out why.

Mar 27 2009, 10:02
If no one else had this, the problem could by at my end, but It all worked perfectly fine in the weather thread. Some of my posts went through ("test") but after one of them the other's were rejected. Thinking about it now, I should have rebooted the system

This is weird. I had the same exact problem during quali : after 3 or so comments I was keep getting 'sorry, your post couldn't be accepted at this time' message, both in Firefox and IE. I could logout and login and post one comment, but after that it went back to the 'sorry..' message. Other chats and basically everything worked fine, I'm clueless as to what it could be. Is there anything I should look up (windows xp sp2)?
Currently it's all fine, I'm spamming weather thread and I definitely can post more than 3 comments (please delete them). Really weird.
edit: oh yeah, i went to the weather box during the race (edit: i meant quali) and had the same problem, so it might be server/traffic related.
wingwalker
Mar 29 2009, 06:02
Eh. same problem again. I can't post after two posts.
Wingwalker, I will get to debugging your problem as soon as I can, but it is a bizzare one.
Also if anyone saw error messages today at the end of the race suggesting they are banned or not registered, I can assure you that neither of those are the case. This was due to overloading of the forum server, which passed messages to Live that your posts had been rejected - normally indicating the above conditions, but not today.
We are working night and day to upgrade our infrastructure, and I will make sure this bug is corrected.
I mean WTF? Every year same old.
Is this forum run on a C64?

Thanks, it was really annoying. I imagine it's a bizzare one, I tried to change everything I could on my end but it made no effect, and the fact it happens only during the F1 sessions makes me think it is related to traffic on the server. But how exactly, I have no idea.

Can you please use a trackmap that shows the right track.
This is what we see on the commentary page, laid in top of a Google maps picture..
But, nevermind if you have more important things to do..

I had to work during the FP2 (and slept over FP1) but I had no problems with posting comments! I will hold the 'yay's' until tomorrow but it looks to be working fine for me.

ehhh... "sorry, your post..." message when I tried to post for the first time during the FP3 during the quali. Two posts with IE and same messeage appeared. I still get it, btw. I Will post from a different computer and see how it goes.
wingwalker, I have tracked your issue down to a problem with the 'under the comments' forum post form. Unfortunately, there is no quick fix, so I have disabled that option for now. This is due to the temporary link described above and will be resolved before Spain.

Similar problem -
7 laps left in the race and 'Live' is telling me -
"As it happened" and " The live commentary has ended. No further updates will be posted"!
As Hack has mentioned in the other thread this was a time-related error. Unfortunately, the blame is at my feet for that one. Apologies.

nps Emlyn, it was a surprise at the time but as you saw i thought it was because i'd been baiting someone so i took it as a wake-up call anyway haha
