What i can't really understand is why Kova would take such a move on Sutil. He must have known that Sutil was the lightest guy out there. He was not racing him at all and was in a good position as he was pitting ten laps after him. Why couldn't he use his brain? By that move he wrecked his race and maybe the last hope of a top team picking him. He will be lucky to get a drive anywhere next year. That is sad for a good guy with good character like him.

Have to agree. I feel he makes these mistakes because his aggression is a bit forced, especially at the moment he must think he has to be seen to race hard.

Some suggestions Renault and Kubi want him though, that would be a break for him.
metz
If any team picks him up next year, they deserve him.
He was a disaster at Renault, the first year at Mac and now the second year.
Looking at all the other drivers that have never had a top seat in F1, I'd say Kovi (nice guy and all), is history.

Where did you get this idea that renault want him back?

He wasn't a disaster at Renault. In fact I can see why they'd want him back, but I think Kubica and Glock are ahead on their shortlist.

On BBC coverage it was said that Kubi wants him as his teammate, and Howett said it looked like they'd lost Robert to Renault. Makes a certain amount of sense.

It's been suggested that if Kubica goes to Renault he wants Kovi there with him.

Someone posted here Renault wants Glock for the 2nd seat.

Lewis is losing his no.2 to Kubi tongue.gif

Tomerell
There is a good possibility for Heikki to go back to Renault. He is their product from young drivers program, and he has driven in the team already, and did not do a bad job in the conditions given.

Also all F1 seat's Heikki has had were left empty By Alonso, so the trend is there tongue.gif

Jeez, i think we as fans are getting ahead of ourselves. In another thread it is suggested that Lewis is blocking Kimi move to mclaren and now here we are told that Kubica is choosing a poor driver as his team-mate and dictating terms to renault??? I can't believe this bull****.

He might be moving to Ferrari next. eek.gif

Reading on f1-live McLaren seem to think Kova might keep his seat now. They are stupid if they resign him. He is hopeless.

His move on Sutil should of been given a drive through for that. Sutil was passed had the line and was ahead but Kova just drove into him.

Yet agin no points today.
primer
How can Robert Kubica dictate to Renault which driver he wants as his team mate? He is no Schumacher, he doesn't have the status to ask the team to hire a 'slow enough' driver.

Yet again? He scored points in 6 straight races prior to Suzuka, where he most likely would have done so without the grid penalty. Heikki hasn't been magnificent, but give him credit for some consistency. wave.gif

It came from Brundle (I think) during the forum. It's paddock talk, not fan.

Kovy in demand lol.gif . He has to get out of Mac though, he's being destroyed there. Renault have his telemetry and he did OK in the 2nd half of his season against Fisi. And Kubi had some negotiating power, the top 4 drivers all spoken for and he was being sought by Toyota as well. After Kubi there are only midfield drivers really. Not to say, Kovy for Grosjean...
Baddoer
Oh dear. Sutil have a tough luck with finns. What a stupid move by Slowalainen ambivalent.gif

That's not saying much, is it now. Fisichella was laughably bad when he had a championship winning car and a driver called Fernando Alonso as a benchmark.

Thats what I thought when I read that article too. There's no way Sutil was wholely to blame. He must be desperate to impress any prospective new employer. I'll be really surprised if Mclaren keep him for next year.

Well no, agreed, but as a no2...

With drivers like FA/LH the no2 always looks bad.

I think it was kind a fifty-fifty. Maybe Heikki should've given up, but on the other hand Sutil didn't leave him much room. Just glad that the stewarts are allowing some racing for a change.

I'm in two minds on this. On the one hand Heikki gave Sutil room when he had the inside for the chicane entry, then when Kovy had the inside for the chicane exit Sutil tried to push him off.

Question 1 is - Is a chicane treated as one overtaking attempt or two? Because if Sutil had yielded at the exit he'd have been on the inside for the upcoming bend and all the way down to turn 1
Question 2 is - Is it now established racing etiquette that once you get your wing ahead of the other driver's front wheels, then they have to yield as you have the right to the upcoming apex?
Question 3 is - whatever happened to racing where drivers were fair to each other through more than one turn and battled side by side without trying to push the other off track at the earliest opportunity?

Ah, bugger it. I guess I just expect too much. I just remember Button & Fisi having a great fight through the infield at Indy that lasted about three or four corners that lasted a good 20 seconds (I think it was 2007).

Don't bother answering. It's these damn rose tinted glasses I keep picking up by accident!

Maybe because he was to blame? They were side by side with Kova touching the grass when Sutil turned in on him- where was Kova suppose to go?

Having said that- the guy needs to go. He is awful this year, but he will be much worse next year. If he can't balance the car with 20 laps of fuel he is REALLY going to 'struggle' with a race distance tank of fuel.
Coral
It is time for Kova to go. I feel really sorry for him because he seems like such a nice guy and he is having such a difficult time. He looked as if he was about to burst into tears yesterday. His performances are getting steadily worse though and he is costing McLaren some valuable points. I can't see anywhere obvious for him to go next year but I do hope he finds a drive as there are worse drivers out there and he might perform better at a smaller team where there is less pressure on him.
Anssi
You people are over-reacting.

Heikki has been given a car which should be driven like Lewis drives it. Ask Heikki about it - he knows, and has openly said he is having trouble adjusting his driving style to the car. He has basically been told to drive like Lewis drives. Can you judge a driver's talent and skill fairly by asking him to change his driving style, to match the style of the other driver in the team. How fair is that.

What was Kov supposed to do? Really, Sutil had the high ground, there was nothing stopping Kovi from hitting the breaks and letting him go. Brundle shares my opinion, yay? clap.gif

Ain't gonna happen. Did McLaren ever hire an Italian driver? Can't remember..
Besides, there are much more interesting drivers on the market.

2008 there was no such issue regarding Kovalainen to change his driving style and he still got battered by Hamilton on track. In clear air dispite carrying 19kgs more fuel, at times he was a whopping 2.5 seconds a lap behind Hamilton. eek.gif That is a disgrace and Brundle on the BBC basically said so.
Francesc
So, he was some 1.8 seconds slower than Hamilton, don't remember something like this since Senna was paired with Dumfries roflmao.gif
Juan Kerr
A stupidly stubborn show of resistance against Sutil that was purely a reaction to the job situation he is in as if he's trying to 'show' something. Also the move against Fisichella was very negative to squeeze down the inside like that because first of all will end in tears more than not and secondly was far more risky than Sutil's own move in a normal place which Heikki moaned about.
