I think the layout in general is pretty much ok, and if the speed is improved its all for the good (as i'm on an old laptop at the moment, everything is slow and sluggish, but thats the lack cpu and ram, not the forum

)...
But, there are a few minor irritations when sorting out what threads that are new, or where there have been activity since the last time i visited. I do know there are "color codes" for checking the activity, but the old system was very simple and effective, more so imho than the new system...
Also, do please bring back the big dot to mark the threads you have been posting in

can we have the dates and times back for when a thread was started please?
QUOTE (Bouncing Pink Ball @ Apr 30 2009, 16:35)

I know the flickering and cutting off have been mentioned, but the longer member names are causing odd realignments to the entire row when moused over in Firefox 3.0.10. They don't fit the drop down they're squeezed into. Also, all the above happens only when I mouse over the name from above or below, not if I direct the pointer toward either from the left to the icon or from the right to where the drop down arrow would appear.
Edited to correct: The resizing still happens no matter how I mouse in, just no flickering. Of course, the cutoff is constant.

Are you saying this is an Firefox issue...if so how did you stop the flickering?

So Zmeej will be happy - I've found something I don't like.
I REALLY do NOT like having images I post resized to 500px max width. Completely unacceptable. No forum software resize gives acceptable quality. It saves not a single jot of bandwidth for anyone. It's completely unnecessary.
Please fix.

Hack
if you want to have a readable, meaningful and friendly BB where the contents is what really matters
- keep directly posted images resized
- encourage posting links instead of images
- avatars may become a bit larger but not unlimited
- limit the signature area
This is based on my personal experience and with my good intentions to be helpful.
Also this is what appears on the top with Mozilla Firefox - two rows override.

On many IPB boards in the marked area there is a line (command) "Mark all forums as read". Very useful if one wants to see the new posts after the last visit. The old platform did this automatically.

It is necessary, for people with lower resolutions so that it doesn't ruin the layout of the page. Has worked fine for ages in another forum I go in.
The limit usually is 800x600.

I thought it was much better with the resizing... you could very easily click on the black bar on top of the image and it would pop-up the full size

Doesn't it allow for clicking on the resized image to be viewed in original size, afaik it actually loads the original size and just resizes it for viewing (just click to view original size - it doesn't re-download) if you know what i mean.

Ok so a couple of points.
1. Yes, it did allow clicking to get to the original size, but why the extra effort? Why the unnecessary, wasted effort?
2. As I noted in my first post on the subject, the downsizing to 500px resulted in a freaking horrible image! So bad that I would disable all my links to my images and certainly wouldn't post any again - maybe no great loss, but it does show how badly I think the downsizing was.
3. I hate BBs that decide on some arbitary limit (can you say 10/tenths or whatever they call themselves - they have a photographers forum that actually frowns on anyone posting pictures at all).
4. If you don't want to see images as the photographer intended them then don't click on the threads that may obviously contain pictures.
5. It's 2009, if you can't cope with an image of 150 to 200kb or so in size then maybe you should consider moving back into the cave and ditching your Commodore 64.
6. As I also noted in my earlier post, no size limit for images worked just fine on the old board. No reason it can't work equally well now.

Yes, I find it annoying (in some ways) that there's no automatic "mark forums read". From observation - and correct me if I'm wrong - this used to refresh itself after 30 minutes: I'd very often spend about 40 minutes in TNF, then go to PC, to find only a couple of threads which were allegedly unread, despite the fact that I hadn't been online for 12 hours! Same on TrackForum, which also uses vBulletin. But not on 10 Tenths (also vBulletin, but a later version)

To be fair, I have little experience of using IP.Board BBs, so perhaps there's no way of doing this. It doesn't appear to be an option on PHP boards either - I'm on several BBs which use PHP and have to use a "mark forums read" link on those.

If you want to quote a person, use the

Or you could still click on

Thanks for that, using IE7 mods u can delete or merge this if u like, i have had my whinge
Do not worry, large images won't ruin the entire page layout.
Only the post that contains the large image will require scrolling (horizontal), if the image exceeds a user's screen resolution.
For the sake of illustration:

See, all other posts don't require horizontal scrolling to be read because of one large image. It's okay.
I liked the old look, had an old school feeling compared to this, which is just too cold/square
It's all okay, anyhow.
Quick reply is the best new feature, IMO.

Hm,
It seems the option to download or print a topic are not working for 100% -- or maybe I haven't figured out yet how to do it...
Short topics seem to work fine, for example this topic, of only 5 pages.
If I pick
options -> Print this topic I get a printable version of the whole topic.
Ditto if I go for
options -> Download this topic- Printer Friendly Version -> gives me the same result as "Print this topic"
- Download HTML Version -> saves that same result as a html file on my disk
- Download Microsoft Word Version -> save that same result as a doc file on my disk
If I try the same thing here on
this 44-page topic then I don't get all the posts. The last one is from June 30, 2005, while even today replies have been added there.
I can't find a way to download or print the remaining posts.
I've checked a few other topics, and it seems that the printed version and the downloaded versions consistently show only the first
300 posts. There's no option to see, print or save the other ones.
Is there a reason for this, and can it be fixed?

If you click the "minus" icon on the right hand side of the sub forums box they will be minimised and the system should remember your preference.

Also, if you are using an older version of Internet Explorer, it is time to upgrade to
Internet Explorer 8. Microsoft recommends it for security reasons.
Thanks for the info - but microsoft malware remove full scan has said I'm not infected...when I still am.
The drop down thing on the tool bar said to click to install active x....since then It's been very difficult to view any threads as e.machines ( my comp) says it can't find ...then it gives a website 'ads something' which obviously isn't Atlas/Autosport .
I deleted all cookies yesterday...and there's another load of them today ad.yieldmanager@doubleclick seems to be the main one, but there are a lot of other ad type ones there as well.
The next step forward, I think, is for me to delete the cookies agian and look to restore my comp to a previous date....unless there's an easier way to fix this ?

I have tweaked the quote box styling to drop the quote mark image and reduce the space used and also add a bit of an indent. There were some suggestions to use bold text but it looked rather stark and out of place, so let's see how we get on like this.
Regarding thread subscriptions, the easy way to re-subscribe is to click the Options button top left in each thread and click 'Track this topic'.
Unlike the old version, the new search mechanism does not work for a inquiry of three letters - such as FIA. A search on FIA produced no results. Its very hard to call this an upgrade when it doesn't work as well as the previous version. Functionality seems to have fallen victim to fancy graphics.
