I have tweaked the quote box styling to drop the quote mark image and reduce the space used and also add a bit of an indent. There were some suggestions to use bold text but it looked rather stark and out of place, so let's see how we get on like this.

The old quote boxes used bold text, but I think you've got it just right now - the blue text used since the upgrade appeared too faint, bold blue would have been ok but the regular black text you've settled for is better IMO - it also reproduces bold words which have been used for emphasis in the original quote. up.gif

Didn't mind the quote mark images, although I know others did, but not so keen on the dotted line borders around the quotes and above the signatures (sorry - that sounds awful picky - I'll just away and do something useful now... rolleyes.gif smile.gif). Thanks for your efforts - every new thing needs fixing - just watch you don't fix anything that ain't broke! biggrin.gif

The dot is back.

Now added in the member bar at the top of each page, near My Controls etc.

Good stuff Hack. Hate to complain again, but its really hard to see on the red. Perhaps white or lime green (option) or something?

Minus button works well and see you've removed the graphics on quotes. All good stuff.

Is it still possible to set your own page length. Used to have 100 posts a page. Seems to have dropped somewhat and can't find the setting.

Also, no alt tags appear in firefox when hovering over the little thread folder icon to tell you what it is. I think for Firefox that info needs to go in the title field, but am no expert.

ta

other thoughts:

can you still minimise posts, so when you reenter a thread the ones already read are contracted?

also is it possible to save more space by having just the one control bar for each post?
like:
+/- le chat noir | quote reply report top today, 17:46 Post #255

and is it possible to make the quote button take you straight to the reply screen, rather than a toggle?

and please bring back the thread creation date time in the thread index

and change the quote to readed: quote le chat noir @ 12.45, 3 may 2009

thanks again

Are you saying this is an Firefox issue...if so how did you stop the flickering?

No, naming the browser and version is just habit.

If the flicker is really bothering you, I bet it can be eliminated by choosing your own font settings in Firefox (the problem looks like the long member names not fitting into the alloted space). I don't recommend this for such a minor irritant unless you want to control every site you visit but here it goes:
1.) Open menu Tools> Options
2.) The Options dialogue box opens. Pick a smaller font size in Font & Colours
3.) Click the Advanced... button. A second dialogue box will open
4.) Uncheck the Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of my selections above box
5.) Click the Ok buttons to close the dialogue boxes

You can always go back to letting web pages control the fonts by re-clicking the aforementioned box.

damn ..... can we now talk to the bb ?? oh well, 10 years in the making and the retro Atlas look is pretty fine. Calender in it, so no more Bday threads, kewl! only there are somewhat much spaces in between the spaces or something like that ..... I dunno , could be a " get-used-to " thingy.....

I'd give it a +1

The current dot solution is an interim step.

In the user CP (My Controls), go to Board Settings and you can change 'Number of posts to show for each topic page'.

It is like this to allow multi-quote. You can go through the thread adding multiple posts to quote before going to reply.

Great work with the quick adjustments! I think all the black dot needs now is a white border around it.

As others have mentioned, I would also prefer tbe "Hot topic" and "Poll" thread icons to be eliminated. I don't think they serve any real purpose and just make it harder to distinguish between read/unread and posted/not-posted. For "Hot topic" you can tell by the number of replies/pages and for "Poll" you can already tell because there's the word "Poll" right on the thread title. A simple way to fix this for now would be to simply use the same graphic for all three, for the Atlas theme I suggest the regular orange folder.
Ali_G
Sorry, but one other query I have.

Unlike on the old forum, I now have to press refresh everytime I come back to the forum to see new posts since my last visit. Do I have IE setup incorrectly or something ? I used to never have to press refresh with the old forum.
MrAerodynamicist
I agree. I'm finding the normal/hot/poll visually confusing. I'm never quite sure what I've read! Use the same icon for all three, and then make a bigger difference between new replies and no new relies. I wonder if there's any chance to pinch the old icons from the old software?

I don't want to sound unrelentingly negative, and I do appreciate the efforts to tidy up the rough edges.

1) click on the thread you want to rate
2) once thread loads, go to the right and click on rate (there should be stars next to it)
3) rate as appropriate.

there's a lot of people that doesn't work for, me for one, irrespective of what browser i use nor any of the 3 machines here. Clicking on the button does nothing. There is also supposed to be some option bar just above the ads by doogle, i dont have it, i only have the bar to select atlasF1 or autosport scheme.

Whatever the original intention, it will be handy for toggling between preference if Real Life takes over when you have many subscriptions and need to reduce notices. Hunting down the many threads to save your mailbox would take a while.

Am I the only one who strongly dislikes seeing all the threads in a forum listed in blue text on a light blue background?

Kinda makes me feel like the forum is in a fog. Shouldn't threads be listed in black text on a white or light gray background?

Also, with the "Atlas F1" skin, would anyone like to see the color scheme of the alternating post boxes changed? Currently it's white and light blue (same as the autosport.com skin), and IMO white and light gray would be much better for the Atlas skin. Then change the color of member names from that aqua blue color to black (like it used to be) and things will really start looking up.

Yep, too many shades of red/pink/orange. If it must display 13 options then maybe we need 13 distinct colours. THis is what I meant when I said the old board was easier to read, newer boards so full of useless add ons (who cares if it's a 'hot' topic???) they are harder to use. I have faith in Hack and he'll customise it to death to make it work but he has a job on his hands.

Any chance we can replace the 'BB Code HElp" button with the "Add Reply" button, having to scroll down to post is a tad irritating.

I have switched to using the Atlas F1 Skin as i prefer the colour contrasts.

Within the various forums some of the thread titles appear in ORANGE whilst others in a yucky blue. The ones in ORANGE are some of the ones I have replied to but not all.

How do I get all the thread titles I have posted replies in to appear in ORANGE?

Thanks.

Firstly, congratulations to Hack and the team for all your hard work. The upgrade seems to have worked incredibly smoothly. Also, thanks for taking on board and implementing a lot of the suggestions made.

I've just come across a very minor but annoying inconvenience. When using the search function, when I was not quite sure what I was looking for, I entered some keywords and clicked 'Perform the search'. A page then came up with a message on it telling me to 'stand by - we are taking you to the results' and then the results appeared. I then wanted to try some different keywords, so pressed the back button. However, this didn't take me back to the search page (as the old software used to) but to the page with the 'stand by' message, which then of course immediately dumped me back where I had just come from. Obviously I can get round this by remembering to go back two pages instead of one, but my memory isn't so good these days. If this could be sorted with some simple fix, I for one would be most grateful. If the fix isn't simple, don't worry.

Actually, kinda prefer the absence of default bolded quotes - that way it opens up simpler ways for people to highlight the elements of a quoted item. In fact, now that the quote is indented again, I like the fact that the previous default "spacing" before and after quotes has been cut down. up.gif

Agreed. Too many colours and shading = crap.

Sure it's supposedly faster, honestly don't notice a difference, but good lord couldn't those changes (tech wise) be done with the old look & feel? What I liked about the old board was the 'character', this new version is too cold and impersonal - too corporate.

I noticed in this thread that there was no edit note on mark f1's post after he had edited it after somewhat more than five minutes. For Bets & Games purposes, the old style edit notes were really helpful for the hosts (well me at least) as the games have deadlines and so on. Could the time limit for those notes to appear be changed down to five minutes like before? brunopascal's edited post has one, but there the time difference from post to edit was a matter of days.

I've eliminated the poll icon. As someone said, it has 'Poll:' in the thread title anyway, plus the purple didn't look great.

I also bumped up the 'hotness' required for hot topics to 1000 posts, so really it only now picks out long-running threads. Let's see how that works.
MrAerodynamicist
Primarily I think it still needs a bit more visual differentiation between the colours of 'new posts' and 'no new posts'. I have to confess, I've just set up my router to hijack the URLs of the icons and redirect them to a copy of the old icons.... At best, a little bit cheeky, at worst, rather rude. But my brain at least knows know what it's looking at.

Alfisti
That's so much better. i tis not just this forum though, any other 'modern' forum is just as bad, somewhere the IT world lost the plot re. notification folders for threads.
