Primarily I think it still needs a bit more visual differentiation between the colours of 'new posts' and 'no new posts'. I have to confess, I've just set up my router to hijack the URLs of the icons and redirect them to a copy of the old icons.... At best, a little bit cheeky

No objections. Yes, bring them back for the Atlas theme!
The functionality benefits of the new board are great, but the old look is, I think, missed both for familiarity reasons and also by those of us who just preferred the unique feel at the 'old Atlas'. The new style is too much like every other forum, though it's improving every day from all the little changes requested by us picky folks. Thanks for all the hard work.

absolutely no objections.. and by doing it only on the Atlas theme, there should be no complaints from those who prefer the new icons

Just a quick word of thanks and

to all the team that implemented and designed the changes, this luddite has managed to work out things quite quickly, so there is no need for the kids to find me that home (just yet anyway) how you managed to effect the change so seamlessly, I would love to have known, when changing customers price matrix

Sleepless nights did not enter into it!
Great job guys, and to Twinny for responding to question so rapidly
Another vote for the old icons
OK, old folder icons make a comeback to the Atlas theme. I look forward to complaints that the new ones are missed.

Yes, the current 'newpost.gif' is 8 x 8 pixels and 82 bytes. Increase the size of 'newpost.gif' to 12 x 12 pixels, and make sure the file size does not increase too much (keep it under 200 bytes).

Since they are not visible alongside thread titles anyway, better remove them from posting options too.
Hack, is it possible to change the IPB forum icons to be something more exclusive to Autosport/Atlas, just a wish rather than a want.

Just wanted to add my congratulations for the work done by the developers. I understand the reasons for change and I have been impressed with the speed that some of the upgrades have been executed.
Keep up the good work, it is appreciated.
Thanks for the smooth transition and all the effort so far to accomodate people's requests.
One thing that's difficult for me with the new format is that I read a lot of the BB on blackberry whilst travelling. On the new format, wording that has been quoted does not display any differently to wording that hasn't, which makes posts a lot more difficult to read. Is there anything that can be done about that (my end or yours)?
Cheers
old icons/buttons way better!
thanks
Well - I've waited a bit to let it all sink in... but - sorry guys - can't say I think much of it.
Graphically it's poor and has the look of an older windows application.... (fussy icons, poor graphics which are often unaligned or overshoot their field (["quick access] to my left is doing it right now]). For reasons I can't understand it's dropped my avatar and replaced it with a Toronto Maple Leafs one I haven't used in 10 years. The blue/gray/purple is a little depressing.
I know a lot of hard work went into this and understand that one should be appreciative of that, but generally one wants to see an improvement - I don't see one here - quite the opposite. Looks way too corporate. Fitting I suppose.
Disappointing.

Hack

Adding my kiss to Gilles4Ever's.
I must say that as the various tweaks have been carried out in response to comments and requests I increasingly like the look and feel of the BBs.
There is one thing that I can't find though, and I apologise if this has already been discussed, or if I am missing something that is painfully obvious.
In the old incarnation of the BB, going to the first unread post gave the first posting in full, and also any new posts. Posts that I had marked as having read were minimised, just showing the top line of each one.
When I go to a thread now, the "Go to first unread" button does exactly that, but all the previous posts on that page open fully as well (including all of the images that might be within those posts).
I've got a vague recollection that I selected a setting which minimised any posts that had been read, but I can't find a similar option now. Was this function in fact an option or simply the default behaviour of the old system?

I'm geting use to the new look but the email notifications that I get have such long subject lines that I can't see the thread topic unless I open each email. Previously I'd know what I was looking at and could cherry pick which topics to reply to first.

You can do that. On the main index, click the square icon next to the forum to mark that forum read. There's also a Mark All Forums Read link up near the header to mark all forums.

That was an option with the old board, but I don't think it is supported in this software.

That's annoying and I think should be possible to fix.
Peculiar behaviour in the racing comments sections:
If I click the last page Icon on the Ferrari F60 thread the last post is 6308. If I open the thread and then click the last page icon the last post is 6391?

A quick'n'dirty (and urgent!

) question:
Is it possible to turn off the yellow preview pop-up bubbles when you view a forums main page?
After years of turning off "balloon tips" on every PC I work on, it now feels as if they all came back to haunt me here on Atlas...
Seriously, can this be done via personal controls or do I have to tweak my browser?

I've heard from Kevin Bartlett that he can't log in any more...
His question to me was:
"Since the new format I haven't been able to have my username or password recognised, what could be wrong?"
If you could please suggest an answer for him, I'll send a link to this thread to him via e.mail.

Sorry if this has already been covered...i've been away for a while.
With the old format a users post on your ignore list was completely hidden. Now, with the new format, I can see where the 'ignored' user has posted...which is kind of annoying, I'd rather not even know that guy still comes to the forum! I know, it seems kind of petty, and perhaps a little rude...but have you been to the Indycar '09 thread lately?

This is because TNF doesn't have any sub forums at present.

Is it possible to bring back Spell Check?
Tim Murray
May 6 2009, 21:42
Spellcheck is still there - it's the icon with ABC and a tick on it at the top right of the reply page.
From the Paddock Club rules:
QUOTE
Uncensored profanity is allowed, and perhaps even encouraged, as long as your choice of vocabulary does not violate any other rule
And yet when I say ****ing, all I get is stars.
Is there really a need to censor bad language on here ?

I notice that what I was going to ask for - putting a "Mark all forums read" link on every page is now available

- is it possible to reinstate the automatic setting from the old board which used to do the same thing when you logged off? (It also did that if you were logged on for over half an hour, which was a bit annoying!)
Why? Because I'm too ****ing lazy to click on it!
Re censorship: IIRC there were different rules for RC and PC, with the latter having more freedom on the grounds that you probably wouldn't have impressionable kids in PC discussions. Perhaps the new software can't support different settings in different fora?
I've been through this thread but not found this problem.
On the old forum if you wanted to search a multi-page thread you could "select printable option" or something like that and the entire thread would be on a single long page. Then you could use "Control+F" to find what you were looking for. Now, if I want to do a search I have to go to each page in turn and use "Control+F" on the single page then click on the next page, hit "Control+F" again and re-type what I'm seaching for.
So, in short, is there an easier way to search athread for a single word?

Yes and no. You can get the printable version by clicking on the 'Options' button in the thread title bar and then the 'print' option. However (as I think someone pointed out earlier) this only lists the first 300 posts. It would be very useful if Hack and the team could remove this limit so that all of any thread longer than 300 posts could be displayed.

Firefox users are too smart to need spell checking ;)
