No.

I meant to add, nothing happens when I wait.
Other times I'll try and search and the site will think about it for a bit, then just go back to the empty search page.
Tres annoying.
Perhaps some issue with the flood control, so I've turned it off for members. It's mainly to slow down automated searches anyway.

Im not sure if it is the same for everyone but the new bb software does much better job of tracking which posts ive actually read.
Weird - I'm having exactly the opposite experience. Whether a thread gets marked as read or unread appears to be completely random for me. Some threads with new posts that I have not read get marked as read, others remain as unread no matter how many times I read them. Seems to be a problem limited to threads I've posted in.
Just happened on an

IMPROVEMENT

over the old system:
When in "Edit" mode, previous posts are visible/accessible.

They weren't under the ancien regime.
Also just (finally) noticed the Word-like drop-down formatting array that's kinda handy.

Hack

While I'm in this mood of cautious exhilaration, I'll venture a request:
Would it be possible to return the erstwhile complete array of emoticons so that toggling to "show all" could be avoided?

Bolded text inside pre screws up the monospace super neato alignment. Same goes for codebox I think.
Thanks for the pre function btw! Much appreciated!

that is strange, maybe hak can help you?
Were you having same problem with the hold BB software?
Lots of bots started to appear in the BB. I don't remember such a thing before the upgrade. I don't know why - Maybe it's because the new software, or maybe you should introduce membership activation.
For example:
http://forums.autosport.com/index.php?show...40&start=40
D.M.N.

I suggest they see all that thread:
http://forums.autosport.com/index.php?showtopic=107112They need to ban and block all bots.

When using the quote functions it adds the time of the quoted post but the problem is that the time displayed is the time in the posters timezone (it's just a static time, not dynamic like the post time) so for someone in another timezone it will not be the same time as the original post has. I would say it's better to remove the time because in very active threads it can be a bit confusing.

Search still doens't work for me.
I enter a search word, it thinks about it for five seconds, then returns me to the start of the search page.
Frustrating.
Would be great to get to the bottom of that issue potmotr. Can you PM me some details like your browser, examples of what you are searching for, what options etc.
As I said earlier in this thread, I had to swap out the default search system for an indexing service that runs much better but it is possible that there are bugs in that code.

Given the BBCode options in the sidebar are available from the 'Insert Special Item' drop-down, it seems like a good idea to get all the smiles available in one and this is now done.

Well, even thought it was
my mistake, as I've been able to reproduce it using just a couple of synapses and clicks, I remember the old BB, when asked to delete a post, used to bring in a new page to confirm the action, not just a small pop up...
And yes,
this stupid member clicked DELETE instead of EDIT and without reading the message clicked the YES button on that tiny pop up...
My fault,
my lack of attention, but I still think it will happen at least once for many, inadvertedly...
Erm, I know this was requested earlier and given a "No," but could we be given an option in "My Controls" or somewhere to disable the "Thread balloons"?

IIRC, the answer was not "no," it was "
not at the moment."
I did look into this, but it is a large impact modification to introduce a CP setting and a lot of complication to make sure it doesn't break things. I don't want to change that many files, as that would defeat the point of upgrading to a standard software package.
I do note the requests for this option and perhaps in the future I can come up with an easy way to make it happen. But, right now, I'm afraid the answer is still not at the moment.
Thanks for the clarification, and for your attention to the matter.

As there is an option re the number of posts viewed on a page etc., could there be an option to expand the number of previous posts viewed when composing a reply?
BTW, wanted to mention that the PM interface, which makes it clear how many messages there are in the Inbox, Sentbox and how full things are, is a great improvement.

It is turned off for a number of reasons. Due to the volume of users here, it takes a lot of server resources to maintain that list and - while we do now have a lot of resources - this will only add to the burden at busy times. When the forum is busy, that is also an enormous list - we can have over 5,000 users online at a time during GP weekends.
Finally, a lot of people don't like everyone to know that they are online.
The server upgrade is paying off, no downtime whatsoever today

, thanks.

Irritant, minor type:
Sometimes when I type in a semi-colon followed by a close-bracket, this doesn't produce a "wink" emoticon, and sometimes the winking emoticon is "de-coded" into punctuation marks after an edit.
Qu'est-ce-qui se passe?
Erm, feedback?

Have also noticed that in the transfer of files from the former Atlas look to the present configuration, quite a few type-based emoticons of the

and

(it was formerly produced by :/) ilk have been de-coded into punctuation...
Still a minor irritant, but...

Has anyone had an issue with sending pms and the time between sends please? A friend on the board who's a chat user but rare poster is now getting a 'you must wait 5 minutes before you can send another pm' message that's only started happening this weekend......anyone else having the issue or is this part of the 'flood control' please?
Any suggestions or ideas gratefully received (apart from ones that involve reproduction and travel of course lol)

We have had to introduce some restrictions on 'new' members (those with few posts) due to recent spamming and this, so far, has been successful. However, 5 minutes wasn't intentional - I actually read the setting wrong
I've also sorted out your friend so the flood control doesn't apply to her.

English English is too conservative, nobody speaks that. I'm not sure that my computer could cope with it, and I'm afraid it's too late to buy an Amstrad.

Mary, Mary, what a contrary view you hold. I think you'll find that we do still speak British English in Britain. For example, it's colour and centre, not color and center.
The spell check is provided directly by some (but not all) browsers, therefore will default to the language settings for the browser. It isn't a function of the forum software.

Reduce the length of signature to something more reasonable, say 150 characters. Restrict the font sizes in the signature while you're at it.
Some people are misusing their signatures as a scrapbook to compose their next epic.
