I just searched on "for sure" in Google News.

For sure, it made me laugh blush.gif

i noticed this last year with massa but jenson and hammy this year seem to say it at least a few times a race weekend lolzz

but my favourite is stefano he is the king of "for sure" maybe him and massa "for sure" all the time, obviously monotone kimi probably doesn't understand its not english he is aware of in finland

I remember an ITV studio interview with Olivier Panis at Magny-Cours in 2000, and he seemed to start every ance with "seriously". Probably bad on the "for sure" count.

yer i definately think it started after shumacher left F1 it started (well i noticed it) with Massa and stefano and then suddenly Hammy n Button everyweekend started to say it.

Yeah. Before that, it was "honestly" and "obviously". And Schuey was multiple champion in the "Obviously" championship, as far as I remember. roflmao.gif

Schumacher was a fiend for peppering his sentences with 'honestly', I used to wonder if he doubted that anyone would believe him; given his history: "Honestly, Hill's fault", "I honestly didn't see Jacques", "If I'm honest, I skidded at Rascasse", who can blame him. tongue.gif

yer the era of "Obviously" was the "in thing" even Alonso was dropping them in for good measure, running him close for the "Obviously" championship!!

alonso is the "i think so" and "a little bit" champion these days roflmao.gif since michael left f1

havent you heard Jaime Alguersuari?

he's trying very hard to join the "for sure" club

Kyle Busch is racing at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve this weekend and I think he might be signalling to us his intention of joining F1 next season:
QUOTE
“I watched the race closely the last couple of years and know there are some long straightaways and some tight, hairpin-type corners,” Busch said. “For sure, it’s going to be at tricky place.”

See you at USF1 next year, Kyle!

ALERT: Don't get trolled. Kyle ain't going anywhere.

I suggested that Stefano Domenicali should be allowed to compete, because "for sure" he would be very competitive

You're doing it wrong, it's "For sure I suggested that Stefano Domenicali should be allowed because he would be very competitive for sure" (note: no comma). It's kind of like HTML tags for verbal language.

On a serious note - I've been asking about the origin of this for a long time, and have yet to see a good explanation. My thought was that it had to do with a common foreign language course, since it seems all of the non-English speaking drivers do it the most (I remember Kimi used it like a comma at one point to create run on sentences IIRC "For sure mumblemumblemublemublemumbleBUTFOR SUREmumblemumblemumblemuble")?

Thanks! For sure that's the first time I've understood what he said!

We all tend to sub-consciously mimic the speech patterns and colloquialisms of those around us, I hate to hear myself say 'for free', a total abomination and grammatical bollocks, but I do sometimes fall into the trap simply because I am bombarded by it all the time. I notice that another crucifiction of the English language, the breathy 'H', pronounced as 'haitch', is gradually disappearing again into the swamp it crawled from - alright, from whence it crawled - but still lingers.

For sure.. up.gif

This weekend I'm keeping a watchful eye on Kimi Raikkonen muttering "I mean" into just about every sentence.

Seriously, keep note of how many times he says it. It's the new 'for sure' for sure.

Sebastian Buemi made head start during today's press conference http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/78040 with two quick 'for sures'.
In the end he scored 3 'for sures' overall, but he was clearly beaten by Sebastian Vettel who scored no less then 6 'for sures' in a mid-press conference flurry.
A late charge brought Romain Grosjean, still adapting, a total of two 'for sures'.

Heikki Kovlalainen totally missed out. Instead, he used the "I think" phrase no less than 16 times (and then I'm not even counting "I don't think" or "I would like to think").
Looks like thinking is not the way to know something for sure wink.gif

So, today's result:
Vettel 6
Buemi 3
Grosjean 2
Kovalainen 0

Has a "For Sure" T-shirt been made up yet?

I was hoping some1 would have stylised it in the F1 logo, or even soemthing like Jamiroquai's parody logo of Ferrari's

Also, has anyone other than Hakkinen used "to the maximum"?

I also just realised that the Ferrari crest/logo with the stallion says S.F. underneath. A very easy swap there

Cant be bothered to read all of it but I say it was Prost who started all that for sure stuff.

Ed Gorman from the Times spoke to Hamilton about the 'for sure business' and Joe Saward's take on where it originates from:

QUOTE
Back to Lewis, I couldn't resist asking him about "for sure". Amazingly Lewis has never noticed he even says it and was intrigued to hear about the "championship." It will be interesting to see if he carries on with it or tries to drop it. As far as "fantastic job" is concerned, I told him he was already the out-and-out title holder on that one and no one would ever get close. "Really?" he replied, incredulous. On the subject of where "for sure" comes from, my colleague Joe Saward had the best explanation. He believes it goes back to the era when there were many French drivers in Formula One and he reckons Jacques Lafitte may have unwittingly started it by using the French phrase "bien sur" (of course, naturally, yes etc) during interviews which then got picked up and Anglicised by the English speakers. And so it got handed down to the likes of Lewis, Jenson and Felipe. (Stefano Domenicali is also a big "for sure" man, I noticed during an interview with him this morning). Anyway, for the record, in the official transcript of the FIA presser on Thursday, Sebastian Vettel is recorded as having used "for sure" no less than five times, Sebastien Buemi used it three times and Romain Grosjean got in the on the act once. Not to be left out, Heikki managed to get one "fantastic job" in just for kicks...

Domenicali put in a remarkable single-sentence performance recently, according to a Planet F1 article on the subject of Ross Brawn:

"For sure he will do whatever he can with the team to ensure that he will have a continued story in the future for F1, but things may be different, but for sure we need to expect the job that they have done, so for sure they will be there and fighting for the Championship in the future."

If Button wins the For Sure Championship this year, will it be tainted or undeserving?

How are the standings right now? I wonder for sure lol.gif
Tenmantaylor
The phrase's use has gone far beyond F1 and its drivers, every motorsport programme ive watched recently from WRC to Formula BMW UK the drivers and commentators are all at it! Its almost beyond a joke now lol.gif

I think this is the most recent standing but it's out of date frown.gif

This is the only thread to which I subscribe on autosport.

I hope Massa can come back and compete.

This championship is very fair, since it's an average, not a cumulative total.

Liuzzi is making a bit play for this championship.

At least 12 "for sures" so far in this BBC interview...

Yes, because Button was able to press an advantage over Massa, annd Massa did not have enough pc's to maintain his challenge.

I'm starting to wonder if the drivers know about this championship, sometimes I get the feeling Button is playing along.

Just out of curiosity how do we know this? I know he and others read Autosport.com proper but I've never heard of them reading this specific forum.

Of course they must know.

Lee McKenzie mentioned it a while ago in one of her tweets. Liuzzi's efforts are too obvious. Also Button did 9 in the Thursday pc.

Conclusive evidence.
