Hans Etzrodt
The History of Brooklands Motor Course
by William (Bill) Boddy, publ. 1957, is a well researched 368 page book describing all Brooklands events.

You might also search the web. I had seen a web site not too long ago with the Brooklands circuit. Cannot find it any more.

And Barry was looking for some information about Tony Gaze racing there at one time...
Hans Etzrodt
Tony Gaze's name is not in the index of BB's book.
Barry Lake
I can't add much more to that. Hans has recommended the most complete book on the subject, and that is the same address I have for the Brooklands Society.

Without rushing for the book to check it, I have on a list here that Brooklands opened 17 June 1907.

Quick question in this 11-year old thread: I know the last-ever meeting at Brooklands was held on the Campbell Circuit on 7 August 1939, but when were the last meetings on the Outer Circuit and Mountain Circuit?
Tim Murray
The 7th August meeting featured twelve races on all three circuit configurations (Campbell, Mountain and Outer). The very last race at Brooklands was the Third August Outer Circuit Handicap, won by G.L. Baker's Graham-Paige.

However, the following day, Raymond Mays set a new 2 litre (and outright) lap record on the Campbell in ERA R4D. Brooklands lap records did not need to be set in actual races.

At least one other record run was made after that: as late as August 29th 1939, Forrest Lycett set a new International Class B Standing Start record with his 8 litre Bentley.

Two post-September 3rd 1939 meetings were cancelled: the LCC 3 Hours for production sports cars on September 16th and the usual season closer on October 14th.

Due to a disappointingly small entry the LCC 3 Hours had been postponed from an earlier date, incidentally taking over the traditional date for the BRDC 500 which had presumably already been cancelled. The machinations of the 1939 calendar are such fun! lol.gif

Thank you for these super quick replies, most helpful!

Why the 'Third August' in the title of the last race?

Presumably because there were also a First August Handicap and a Second August Handicap also run on the 7th August. The First Second And Third descibing the numerical order of running and not relating to date.

Because earlier in the meeting there had been a First August Outer Circuit Handicap and a Second August Outer Circuit Handicap smile.gif
