OK... I'm a lucky man; going on a 3 week european trip in September as a belated honeymoon; 3rd week is on Lake Como. New wife agrees going to the Italian GP on the Sunday would be a good use of time.

4 questions:

1) Which are the best value seats, is General Admission ok , don't mind not being in a covered grandstand? Probably splash out on a Kangaroo to find out what's going on...

2) Is there much ant-Brit feeling; guessing I'll be ok in my ferrari shirt and cap... smile.gif

3) Getting there from West side of Como - what's it like driving in / out of the GP - and should I double, triple or quadruple the time to get there?
I'm guessing leaving the GP will be mad with lots of pumped up italian drivers; or is it OK?

Finally - getting tickets - any reliable / discount sites, aside from the official F1 site?

Being older and wiser, I have lately gone exclusively for Grand stand tickets at GP's. A numbered seat and (if buying the expensive ones) clear view of jumbotron (or whatever they call'em)

I have yet to attend a GP where there is any kind of antipathy towrads anyone. I can assure you that you and the missus will be perfectly safe. Unless she gets herself tipsy and start pinching the local men. Then the local girls might attack her.

I was absolutely astonished by how well organised they were in Italy when I went. Mind my comparison was Belgium, so that may be damning with faint praise. Since Milano has loads of motorway ringroads the traffic tends to disperse fast. And having stated this, I have now, probably condemmed you to a standing line of several hours.

Lastly, I was camping at Lake Garda and Lake Como back in the late nineties. Lake Como was, by far, the more beautiful and interesting spot. Good choice.

You'll be ok even in a McLaren shirt and cap. Once for the fun of it I walked in McLaren shirt in Maranello - and I didn't see any bad attitude - people were smiling and saying "So you support Hamilton?"

general admission is the way to go at monza

lesmo offers great wieving point, there are also stands in the lesmos that are accesable with GA ticket

also parabolica (inside, not outside), great, close to track and has a small concrete stand

I got my tickets from here:

Very reliable; turned up within 2 or 3 days I seem to remember.

I grandstanded 2 years and GA'd for one. If you're prepared to tramp round the circuit and absolutely NAIL your spot then GA is fine but the Italian GP is one of the cheapest so getting a grandstand seat is less painful. Best spot I would say is at the first chicane - also the most expensive - but I've been at Parabolica 2 years as well; the run out onto the main straight is better than round the back - I think - but you've got a massive telly for both spots and you should be fine. One thing completely different about Monza compared to Silverstone is it's quite a bit harder to navigate round the track because of the trees: it looks straightforward but I've been lost more than once.

Only problem I can remember having is not ogling the women wandering round whilst girlfriend was in tow...

In light of Schumachers return I've bought 2 tickets for Grandstand 6A. We went in 07 & sat in Parabolica 21a & really enjoyed the whole weekend, although we only arrived into Milan late on the Friday night. This year we're flying over first thing on Thursday morning which means we'll be able to get pictures from almost the stands on the Friday but also can attend the track on the Thursday afternoon, including pitlane access supposedly. Can't wait. Has anyone here gone on the Thursday before? What's transport like to the circuit from the train station? I assume that there won't be the free shuttle buses that there are on the Saturday/Sunday.

Just to give some feedback / followup.

Italian organisation was brilliant. Got train in from Como (8 euros to park for day). International trains stop there on the GP weekend. Nice clean fast Swiss train from Como - Monza (town, not park) in 25 mins. 3euros each way (!)

Free shuttle bus waiting to the track. About 1 mile walk to track from bus.

Fairly easy finding general admin space to sit - opted for the back straight in the end on some bleachers. Had plenty of space. Reasonable view, although the cars are shifting at this point.

Good facilities (toilets etc) and friendly staff (some english spoken)

Amazing, amazing atmosphere. Very friendly supporters (helped that I was in Ferrari gear) but real mix of fans.

Hired a Kanagroo TV for the day, was expensive but worth it. Relaying current results to Italians made me very popular.

End of race track walk was very special.

Easy journey back. Buses were queued up waiting, police closed road to get the out so no stopping through town. Train station not asking for tickets to Monza, but were asking them for other directions (which was fair and it's only 3 euros...) Plenty of extra trains.

Overall : excellent experience, good value for money for GA tickets

Next time (and I will go again) I'll go for all three days and I think, camp at the circuit... will consider a grandstand ticket near the first chicane. We'll see...
