His race has been great, but the "youngest point scorer" thing is pointless. Never in the history of F1 did the 9th placed driver score points before this season.

It's already been pointed out, but Vettel is still the youngest points scorer. He was 19 when he scored points in the US Grand Prix in '07. Jaime is 20.

Good race for him today. Impressive.

The young lad has driven well this year. Good for him and well done for getting into the points this afternoon.

Edited my previous post. I let Marca fool me, not gonna happen again blush.gif

I was very critical about Jaime last year, but this race has shut me up a little. Go Jaime!!

And knowing Toro Rosso's past form, that means Buemi could be looking at the mid season booting if he doesn't pick up form soon. I'd be surprised if STR have the same line up in Abu Dhabi, so Alguersuari needs these results.

I've been really impressed in the past couple of races by him - he seems like quite a ballsy racer.

To quote Arthur Ransome a famous chilldrens author and spy.

"BETTER DROWNED THAN DUFFERS IF NOT DUFFERS WONT DROWN."

But Buemi isn't exactly a Scott Speed.

well it was bloody obvious he was a potentially good F1 driver.. his British F3 performances were outstanding...

i was a bit surprised he wasn't finding his way immediately but the testing restrictions probably are to blame for this

And his Formula Renault 3.5 less so impressive...

But that's besides the point. The lad did well today and hopefully this is the start of an upwards trend for him.

Hey- didn't the kid also keep no less than a Mr Schumacher behind him for 36 laps in Australia? The guy is beginning to impress me and not just today.
ensign14
I get the feeling that he has been trying to understand F1, rather than just drive, so it's taken longer to get up to speed as he's been getting there by evolution rather than revolution, but that will be better off in the long-term. Contrast Christian Klien for example.
Birelman
He battled Michael Schumacher and made highlights, therefore, he shall forever be hated by the MS loving community.
Mackey
Jaime has said that battling with Schumacher taught him how to try to overtake and battle in a race. Seems he learns quickly, cause his overtakes today were really good!

He was really really solid. Decisive, good timing etc. His racing against Petrov looked anything but rookie-like (I know he's not a rookie).

Well his Twitter account should be going into jajaja caps lock overdrive after this result up.gif

LOL so true. Maybe he won't have as much time to tweet links to his techno mixes or whatever it is he does.

Oh dear!

I'm becoming a fan I have to say with his comedy Twitter moments and its good to see him backing it up with solid performances on the track too. I hope he can have a solid season!

Love th GIF - he is a cheeky devil isnt he....

and smooth

Im starting to like Jamie more and more - he had a rough 09 but these rookies dont have testing now (another fine decision by FIA rolleyes.gif )

He is showing some great glimses and Im becomming a fan biggrin.gif
kodandaram
Yup - he was very unimpressive last year. But he has turned that around this time. I think keeping Michael behind him for so many laps at Australia has boosted his confidence. He has been very good in wheel to wheel battle and he always looks so Smooth - DC like. Would like to see more of the same - looks like a a good lad.

Well, nice that some medias noticed about this. Where is Massa and the others saying that Jaime is dangerous? cat.gif
Rob
He's a great kid and I've been certain of his talent since his junior formulae days.

The "dangerous driver" line was always nonsense. Massa had more experience when he entered F1, yet he was far more dangerous than Jaime was!

For now Jaime got points again. OK, I know that Hamilton had a DFN but Jaime was there to take advantage of it, so he still deserves the points.

And on starting he overtook 6 cars reaching 9th. He overtook Hulkenberg when needed. Too bad about the mistake with the Hispania that cut his chances to reach Barrichello but he opened such a big gap to the guys behind that he didn't loose his potition even with the stop and go.

For now he's earning a lot his seat at Toro Rosso and a preferential chance for better seats in the future. In addition, do I need to bring out his age?

His start was excellent indeed.

A shame he had that problem in the pit stop, then he made the mistake with Chandhok trying to gain the lost time. Anyway he has finished all the races beating his teanmate and collecting 3 point for the team. Keep pushing Jaime! clap.gif

Not sure if theres already a thread on him, but if there is then maybe a merge.

Just wanted to say how harshly he was treated by pundits and commentators last season. He came in at 19, and although he didn't look all that great, people were straight on his back despite his age. Very pleased to see that he is starting to prove these critics like Brundle wrong. He has been great this season so far and is starting to look like a star for the future when some were quick to want to see him thrown on the scrap heap before his 20th birthday.
Burai
I think his critics were right. He was far too young and totally out of his depth. Not that it was his fault per-se. The blame really lies with Red Bull for putting him into such a situation and the FIA for failing the 2009/2010 rookies (especially Grosjean) so badly with the testing regulations.

I think it's telling that Brendon Hartley stepped down as third driver at Red Bull when he realised Bourdais was on borrowed time. He (and his people) knew he'd be eaten alive should he step into that Toro Rosso.

Fair play to Alguersuari though. He's certainly turned it around in a situation that would have swallowed up so many other drivers.

I don't think it was anything personal, the anger sprung from the idea that any driver could be put on a Formula One grid with no testing and very little experience with powerful single seaters. Alguersuari did extremely well though, evidently British F3 is still a good training ground. lol.gif

I don't think he was too young. Look at how Fisichella got on in the Ferrari. Without testing, absolutely everyone in an unfamiliar car struggled. Kobayashi was lucky enough to have done the whole pre-season testing programme, so he wasn't in an unfamiliar car.
BuzzingHornet
I'm liking JA quite a lot, he must have balls of steel to do what he is doing with so little experience.

He doesn't make many mistakes, he scores the odd point and he learns something each race he does. I wouldn't be too surprised to see him in something like a Williams in future if he keeps it up.. Sir Frank likes to have a punt on a promising rookie occasionally smile.gif

It was a great race performance from Alguersuari running 11th, two second behind battling Schumacher and Hulkneberg before the brake failure arrived… I think he did absolutely the maximum out of situation, being also over 3 tenths quicker then Buemi in average race laps… I hope he can repeat this performance in 2 weeks…

It's just a shame how much he is struggling in qualy because his races are very good. Let's hope STR upgrades allow him to fight for the points again.

Same as Jenson... I see exactly the same problems... Average in qualifying, but having a very nice pace in race...
Lights
Usually don't notice drivers like Alguersuari in races but this time I did and yes, his pace was impressive. He needs to get everything together in a race and he can shine like Kobayashi has done lately.

I am watching his performances closely this year... His only problem is qualifying, where is Buemi much better... But Jaime had a better race pace then Buemi in half of this season s races, mostly on tracks with highspeed corners... It is definitely one of the closest driver s pair in the grid...
marcoferrari
Good to see Jaime beating Buemi again after China... It was a surprise for me how well he did today, with 4 tenths advantage above team mate... Also De La Rosa's time was very near... I hope 15th place on grid will bring him the same luck as in Spain... smile.gif

Expected a bit more today from Jaime after being constantly faster then Buemi in practices... But still 1 tenth gap isn t that bad... He is getting definitely closer...
