Eerily similar to Henry's accident, hit by a part from another car. Apparently Ruben's car in another part of circuit lauched a suspension component which struck Felipe on helmet. Talk about freak accidents.

If anyone has the latest confirmed information on how Felipe's doing, please use this topic to update us. Give source of your information, too.

Lauda said he's heard a rumour that Massa has a skull base fracture. Unconfirmed though.

Get Well Soon Filepe Baby!!!

Isnt Schumacher Reserve driver????????
Jambo
Best not to bother with rumours, even from someone like Lauda.
Phucaigh
Massa is ok, talking and nothing to worry about.

It was said at the qualifying conference.

I think he'll be back for the next race. They won't run the car tomorrow, I don't think.

he qualified 10th... Let's wait and see if he can start the tomorrow... ambivalent.gif
Jambo
He has, not the car.

Fair enough he may race but he's taken a knock to the head and I seriously doubt it.
Yoshi
Drivers change must be done befor the Qualyfing starts.
VicR
If he can race then it means he is 100% OK. That's what all should hope for.

They won't let him race tomorrow.
ForeverF1
If the crash light in the cockpit is triggered, is it mandatory that the driver is taken to hospital even if he seems to be OK?

You might be right.

But when Button was knocked out in Monaco 2005 (or was it 2003?) he had to sit on the sidelines for the rest of the weekend.

Even if he feels 100% fit now, will he be allowed to race? Remember Jenson wasn't at Monaco, although that was a different type of accident. Felipe took a hit to his head, FIA might not allow him to race.
Jambo
If he was unconscious at all he won't be allowed to race.

Photo of his helmet and the cut to his head, don't look if you don't like blood.

WTF eek.gif
Aviram
why wouldnt they allow him to race? because he had an accident or because his car is completely damaged?
Jambo
That kid isn't racing tomorrow. Hope he feels better soon.

Poor lad.

Pretty much all sports if someone is knocked unconscious there is a risk of concussion. If someone then takes another hit it can do severe damage so they aren't allowed to compete.

It means that the driver has to go to the circuit's medical centre but not to a hospital outside the circuit.

Wow, Massa was really lucky -- it looks like it was more of a glancing blow.
Victor_RO
He'll get away with that, but that will take quite some time to recover.

god! that's awful

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say it's 100% he won't race.

By all accounts, he was unconsious after the hit, and it's very very likely he has a concussion. He will never be allowed to race with a concussion.

EDIT: Hadn't seen the picture. No, he wont race, 101% sure, and he was EXTREMELY lucky.

word...one inch lower and the story could be worse

VicR
Lucky that cut is above the eye and not in the eye itself.
wingwalker
I think it is very, very unlikely he is going to be allowed to race tomorrow even if he turns out to be 100% ok - he took a hit in the head so there will be a fear of another one doing even more damage.

edit: Saw the picture. Ouch! This thing is gonna be all swell up by tomorrow, he is not going to race with only one eye sight.
midgrid
That's a nasty injury and it looks like the helmet took a very hard hit; hopefully he doesn't have any internal head injuries beyond the inevitable concussion.

Wow.
An inch below and we'd be mourning already.
I just hope he recovers and returns later on.
valachus
Domenicali said already that he won't race - http://www.gazzetta.it/dilatua/Motori/Form...5624_full.shtml
"Intanto Stefano Domenicali, responsabile della gestione sportiva della Ferrari, ha già chiarito che "domani Felipe Massa non correrà il Gran Premio d'Ungheria. E' stato intubato, ma è cosciente e la situazione è sotto controllo"."
As close as a shave with - at least - permanent infirmity can get! Hope he gets well soon!

Wow, thanks for posting and for the warning.

He won't be racing tomorrow and looks as if he'll have a decent shiner.

Look how much the helmet is compressed around Massa's injured eye.

That small white Schuberth label next to it is usually flat like the one on the other side, but is all rumpled.
JazH
He's been very lucky. (or unlucky depending on how you look at it).

No lasting damage I don't think. He'll definitely be back for Europe

Hes lucky that we have a 4 week break until the next race.

He will probably be ready for Valencia.

That's close.. glad he's OK..

GWS Felipe, dude.

Damn, it makes ya think, doesn't it?...

Hope his sight will be alright. Such massive blow, but indeed the impact shouldn't have been any lower. eek.gif

So was it just up the road where the part came off?

Who would be Ferrari's replacement?

Surely not Gene or Badoer.

Jesus Christ... two inches lower and he wouldn't have been able to get on an F1 car ever again. Serious shit.

Hope he makes a full recovery.

Maybe Ferrari want his profile off F1 Rejects, so they decide to put him in the car. roflmao.gif

Totally off topic, but I am watching the Silverstone Classic and bloody Stirling Moss is about to go out in an open face helmet and goggles in an open top car!! Nuts.

I hope to god there is no serious injury for Felipe. He is a class bloke and a I hope he is ok. Another inch lower and it would have been so much worse.
