This fibreglass body was used about 35 years ago in an "Altered Class" competition car at Santa Pod drag strip:

I've had it suggested that it may be an Elva, and it does have a strong resemblance to one of the Elva models, but not exactly so.

Can anyone do a firm yes ir no to this identity? Thanks in advance.

Not firm, but it does look like a Mk 1.

Perhaps it's an Ashley body?

Its not from an Elva it is a special fibreglas body sold in the late 50s for 'specials' and is called a Falcon.
Paul Rochdale
It's a Falcon Mk2.

With my obstinate old git hat on, how can you be sure it is not an Ashley? From the Ashley page on Rob Daniel's site in my earlier post "Peter Pellandine was to take with him the mould for this shell and also the mould for the short wheelbase 750 when he was to leave Ashley to form Falcon before the end of 1956" and there's a picture captioned Ashley sports racer bodied Elva

Perhaps you know the car in the original post?

Edited to say that I am happy that it's a Falcon as Paul Rochdale has identified the shell as a Mk 2

THANK YOU! The "composite" answer seems to be that an Elva Mk 1 or 2 body was originally used to make a mould that was then used by Ashley Laminates and later again by Falcon. It is probably now impossible to say whether the car in the photo is bodied by an Ashley or a Falcon. Certainly it had more vigour than when it was puff-puffed along by an 1172cc side-valve!

If you want to see another illustration of how drag-racing removed all constraints from the body-to-chassis relationship, here's a Bond Bug covering a supercharged Chrysler V-8:

Cheers and thanks again
