I found this buried in the racecar site - anyone can do it not just students and you get the current issue straight away then the next two in full as well!

you can get three full digital issues of Racecar here, the offer was meant for students but someone in marketing cocked up so anyone can do it

I imagine they'll ask you to prove you are a student...

Well theres a level of morality in life that we all should follow Tony and I am glad to see someone set standards for all of us to aspire too.

Starting tomorrow, now piss off will you, I'm trying to read my new magazine. tongue.gif

Nope - you don't have to prove anything. As for being honest - I wouldn't worry about it, Racecar Engineering is owned by TimeInc I reckon if they cared they would just stop the promotion but its been there for more than a week. Works a treat

Darn, I'm becoming predictable - new strategies required!!

Tony it's simple, theres theft and then theres internet theft. Theft is bad, no question but internet theft is like speeding in your car, get on the highway and you'll find yourself looking strangely at the only guy who is doing the speed limit and holding everyone up as you pass by. Are you that Volvo driver Tony? lol.gif

Pretty darn boring actually except for the sealed lift out section with the naked Pit Babes doing bad things with a beryllium, titanium, inerter equipped dildo. The inerter keeps those vibes smooth as.

No Wolwo I'm afraid, my trusty VW Transporter while the Cosworth is off the road... but I drive the van like a car, much to the Child Bride's digust.

Tony.........................As we are all here, learning some of the unknown bits of motorsport lore & legend, are we not students?? Some of the forum reminds me of school..........the instructors/lecturers, the listeners (well, readers here), the annoying ones (please no comment about which category I belong to), etc. . So, as you have learned about inerters & third springs, you are a student, so go sign up without any guilt.
By the way, what does the child bride think about you & Gwendolyn??............cheers

Steve

We're always in the shit but the depth varies... Not that I feel that is my position on the Tech Forum, but I kneel at the feet of They Who Know Stuff, hoping for crumbs of knowledge.
Canuck
The trick is sorting out they who know stuff via education but no experience and they who know stuff via experience and no education (and who is most likely to be correct in a given discussion) from those with both relevant education and experience. They both have a leg up on each other and constantly use it to try and beat their perceived opponent.

Sadly, the folks with the most involvement in serious professional racing seem to post the least.

What's dishonest about it? It doesn't even say you have to be a student. It's called the Student discount, fine, they can call it what they want, and they describe it as "A special offer for Formula Student Competitors". Good for them, I hope they get something out of it and since it's not "A special offer ONLY for Formula Student Competitors" I'll get me a piece of that action too.

It's not a screw up, it's a promotion. You have a moral dilemma with promotions?

Well, who's late to the party? The quote above is what I responded to, it gives the impression that it was not exactly legitimate, but an error by Racecar Engineering. When I checked the site it gave me the distinct impression that it was for students only - there was no wording to say that it was a general promotion for non-students also.

I have at no time suggested that any non-student who took advantage of the offer was acting dishonestly, if you can't see that the way I worded my post was self-deprecating then more fool you. The last four words alone should have given you a clue.

If you have a dilemma with people who have moral standards higher than your own, tough. I suggest you stick your head up a dead bear's arse.

You did suggest it was dishonest by giving as your reason for not signing up; "my built-in honesty gene". I can see it was self-deprecating, that doesn't change your moral stance.

What I have a dilemma with is things I don't understand. Makes me want to try and understand them. For shame! So, I was hoping you'd care to try and explain to me what is the dishonesty in signing up (at least for yourself). Instead you tried to trick me into covering my face in bear shit. Luckily I figured out your scheme at the last second as I was running headlong towards the beast's derriere. Hahaaaa, nice try but you can't outsmart me that easily Mr Matthews.

I couldn't find any bears but I did see half a dozen dead roos, a couple of dead foxes and two dead echidnas. So I signed up for the magazine just on the off chance that a dead feral or a marsupial will suffice.

I'm not trying to outsmart you, I prefer a challenge. I didn't suggest it was dishonest, I 'discovered' a non-existent gene, for comic effect, that I could have named something else but 'honesty' was the word that appeared in the nano-second of thought that I gave the subject. Only you, with your moral code, can decide what is honest or not, far be it from me to try to impose any code on you or anyone else. If you are happy to say you are a student when you are not (I don't know if you are or not, and don't care), who am I to judge? Once again - yawn - I refer you to the opening post, which is what I responded to. I notice that a similar post, by the same poster, was very quickly removed from Another Forum, perhaps someone else was uneasy about its implications.

If your dilemma is trying to come to terms with the fact that some people have different morals to you, not necessarily better or worse, just different, just try harder. I notice that two other posters have praised my stance - they could be joking too, if they are I'm hardly going to top myself. Enjoy your free magazine, it's obviouly not as good as when I was a contributor, but still very interesting...

You are now the one who is being dishonest. You say your refusal to sign up had nothing to do with your need to be honest, yet you continue to say exactly that with "you are happy to say you are a student when you are not" (ie lie), and "perhaps someone else was uneasy about its implications" (ie they felt it was immoral).

Perhaps your decision not to sign up had nothing to do with your standards of honesty or morality. Could you please tell me then what your reason was? Try not to lie this time please, I find that immoral.

You seem quite happy to ignore what I write, or perhaps you are incapable of understanding it, although I composed it as simply and succinctly as I could. If the word 'honesty' troubles you, ignore it, replace it, do whatever you like. For some reason I felt awkward saying I was a student when I am not - your word 'refusal' makes it sound like martyrdom on my part - I just decided not to do it. I pass no judgement, several people have signed, good luck to them. You obviously had no qualms, but you were not reacting to the initial post, and you may have read the adverisement more closely than I did and found that it was not just for students, I don't know and I really dont care.

As to the other forum, perhaps you would like to find out why it was pulled, I only proffered a possible reason, a passing comment. I can only think that your tedious posts are fuelled by guilt, and a complete lack of hmour, I can think of no other reason for trying to hi-jacking a thread that was a) informative and b) light-hearted. One final point - and I mean final - it requires balls to call someone a liar face-to-face, but of course, we are not...

Maybe what you're trying to explain just doesn't make any sense no matter how it's put.

Maybe that's the whole issue here... I wasn't asked if I was a student, but you were?

I'm sure you don't care, or you would have asked. I on the other hand cared to know what particular aspect of the offer made you decide not to sign up and am still hoping that you should be so helpful as to try and give me an answer, but maybe we're beyond that now.

Since you failed to see the humour in "You have a moral dilemma with promotions?" (No, I wasn't being serious if you can imagine) and since you did hijack the thread by suggesting I get down and dirty with a dead ursus following my question, I tend to agree with your rationale on this one.
