So,

I am going to be living at my bro's house, in another town, for some months, due to work committments.
He's got 3 kids, in the 8-14 range.

I would like to organize some sim racing for the whole family, helped by the fact that each has his own laptop. OS is Vista, methinks.
I will be more than happy to buy pedals and wheels for everyone, as they give me room and board...

My problem is that I know nada about how to connect several PC to race.

So, I'm loooking for suggestions.

Which race sim?
What additional software?
What kind of cables?
What else do I need?
How do I proceed?

Mind, I don't care if the race sim is old; for example GPL is perfectly fine with me; of course I would like to avoid buying 5 different licences, but if it is necessary I might do it.

Any help will be appreciated.

If it's only for a few months, then try Windows 7 for free, networking is a piece of cake and the OS is faster than Vista, and more secure than XP.

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/get/download.aspx < Free until March next year, downloads run out on 20th August.

As for the sim, I only really play GRID, so others will be more help.

As for the connection, try a wireless router, connect that to the cable/adsl/whatever, and play wirelessly.

As for a controller, I use 360 gamepad, but logitech make good wheels.
http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/gaming/p...72&cl=nz,en (says it's for ps3, but works on PC)

Hope this was some help.

For the sim I suggest rFactor - for the price of one you'll have 5 keys which will allow you to install it on 5 different machines. And it has litteraly hundreds of mods available, including some fun and easy ones for the younger ones smile.gif . GPL is way too hard for anyone under 10/12 I think. For controllers go for the steering wheels if you can afford them, no need to buy 5 brand new G25s, a handful of used Microsoft sidewinders could do the trick I reckon.

One copy of the gpl cd can be installed on all your computers. The cd is not needed to run the simulation.

Try http://gplmz.bcsims.com/index.php?act=idx and
