Full Version: Your choice for Badoer's replacement after Valencia?

Well after the shock news that Michael's cancelled his comeback it seems like a new poll is required. Badoer's not likely to get more than one race, so who could be Massa's full time replacement until he's racing again?

A good point your thread makes.

Badoer has only been given Valencia so far.

Based on Ferrari's statement that Badoer's race at Valencia is in thanks for his hard work as a tester, I'd presume Gene will get Spa.

After that, who knows.. Perhaps they'll alternate.

Seems like a messy solution though.

I don't mean to be rude but why in the last few polls are people refusing to list the obvious choices?! In this case being:

- No one

- Felipe Massa

I'll go with Massa. If he is not ready, stick with Badoer.
Atreiu
I'm trully puzzled to see Villeneuve's name pop up in these threads.

I voted for Piquet Jr. Already familiar with the 2009 cars and still young enough to fully exploit his potential. Bourdais would have been my second choice.

How the hell should Vilander or Bruni get a superlicense? Neither has driven an open wheel cars in anger for four years, and Vilander has never been in a position to get one either. Bruni has of course been an F1 driver, but I don't think he impressed a lot in 2004. It's not a big ask beating Zsolt Baumgartner. The question is, why didn't he always do it? No, stick with Badoer until Massa is back.

give gene a shot

No FA? lol.gif
But I think Massa can come back at Spa!

The subject of Ferrari's driver after Valencia is interesting, but some of the poll candidates are crazy.

Jacques Villeneuve - Too out of practice, struggled with a similar return in 2004 after only a year away

Mika Salo - Last drove and F1 car when?
Jean Alesi - Last drove and F1 car when?!? Is 45 year old!!!
Fabrizio Giovanardi - Has been racing touring cars. Since 1992!!!!
Andrea Bertolini - No single seater form since karts, respectable sportscar driver
Gianmaria Bruni - Best days well behind him
Andy Priaulx - Tintop driver since 2002..
Valentino Rossi - More chance than any of the others you've named, but still an utter outside chance
Toni Vilander - Raikkonen's good mate and.... nothing else.
Jos Verstappen - You've gotta be kidding
Heinz Harald Frentzen - Hasn't driven an F1 car since 2003..
Nicola Larini - Has form as Ferrari replacement.. back in 1994! Why didn't you just say Patrick Tambay?

What about Giorgio Pantano?

Nice, this threads back.

I renominate Baumgartner.
Paul Taylor
Michael Schumacher?

+1
from the given options

pantano or digrassi would be nice though, just to see how they handle, after all buemi and alguersuari did pretty well in their debuts in F1.

Ought to be Tonio Liuzzi. I think he'd do surprisingly well.

I agree actually.

But he never seems to be mentioned in anyway.

I presume most of those names are there for a joke? Who says Badoer won't be there longer? oh, yeah-no one.

Michael Schumacher?

yeah, thinking better. most probably. up.gif

it was just a normal neck pain in a 40 years old with too much time without 5Gs in his neck, maybe for Spa or later, Michael will be more physically prepared.
BMW_F1
Bourdais..

Valentino Rossi - More chance than any of the others you've named, but still an utter outside chance
Toni Vilander - Raikkonen's good mate and.... nothing else. KIMI HAS INFLUENCE!! Toni drives a Ferrari GT.
Jos Verstappen - You've gotta be kidding - F1 experience

Nicola Larini - Has form as Ferrari replacement.. back in 1994! Why didn't you just say Patrick Tambay? Larini drove in F1 more recently than 1994, and in a Ferrari powered car!

What about Giorgio Pantano? he's useless

Ferrari's statement says "Valencia" not "Until Massa is better" like they did with Schumacher.

Confirmation it is not, but it given it's the same team making both statements it's reasonable to assume they're at least keeping their options open.
JPW
I was hoping (probably against better judgement) for Michael to be fit by then but ifnot then Bourdais or Liuzzi would be nice.

LOL somebody voted Verstappen, I don't think he could drive in Belgium he's probably still under a restraining-order after his conviction for threatening and harassing his wife last year.

You clearly haven't read it, as it says :

"as from the forthcoming European Grand Prix, Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro announces that car number 3 will be driven by Luca Badoer."

If Luca Badoer is only given Valencia, and they give Gene Spa, then they will be forced to go with either Gene or Badoer for the rest of the time Massa is out, since they will have used four drivers. Only in exceptional circumstances will they allow a fifth driver to be registered.

But as someone said, it's looking like Badoer doesn't just have Valencia.

I'm still not giving up hope. Can't you add Schumacher to the poll? (Michael that is, not Ralf) ambivalent.gif

Bourdais gets my vote again. If he does not get it, then it should be Piquet.

Unfortunately, if MS has his neck pinched, Massa could recover sooner than him.

Now that would be awesome.

Why not Greg Mansell?

Looks like his Dad, speaks like his Dad.

Sure he could get a moustache going in time for Monza...

I'm puzzled why Anthony Davidson seems to be way below everyone's radar in all those 'who will drive where' threads. Proven test driver, decent race pace, drove a F1 car recently, not too old, definitely motivated to show what he is worth. Piqeuet Jr - he was given a chance, then he was given a second chance and he pretty clearly showed he is not F1 material.
JV - c'mon. Last seen in an F1 car 3 years ago and even back then he was considered to be across the hill.

Some other names are even more unreal and again, it's not only this thread. Alesi? Burti? Versappen? WTF, why not Damon Hill? Or Harry Potter?

Marc Gene could be a great choice.

He is in racing form, has F1 experience and knows the Ferrari very well.

As someone pointed out on one of these threads today...

Ferrari should have put Badoer in for Monza and Gene in for Valencia.

Please the home town crowds.

Simples.

*(And perhaps put Thierry Boutsen or Bertrand Gachot in for Belgium, Takuma Sato for Japan, Bruno Senna for Brazil. Nominations being accepted for Singapore and Abu Dhabi...

Kubica? Hiedfeld? Wurtz?

lots of names not on that list. I'd love to see alesi back but he's way too old now.

That's for me also the most wise choice. I think it's more sensible to talk about Gene and Badoer only, and between both Gene looks better for me.

Seriously, why not give Sato a shot? Put him in an F60 and watch him bring some excitement. As he always did. Good or bad.
