Apologies if this has already been posted here but I've just had an email from John Sprinzel informing me that his old friend Marcus Chambers passed away, three days short of his 99th birthday. RIP

A good innings for a man who led an interesting life. His autobiography "With a little bit of luck" is a good read if you are interested in pre-war motor sport.

Marcus Chambers was a very significant man in the British rally scene for many years. I am so glad he lived to such a ripe old age. RIP

The passing of Marcus on August 5th, must surely mean the ranks of the UK's pre-war motor sporting scene are very thin indeed. He has had a long and rich life through his motor sporting endeavours.

From Marcus time at establishing and managing the BMC Competitions Department, before passing the batten on to Stuart Turner and ultimately Peter Browning, they certainly raised the professionalism of international rallying during their respective time at the helm.

John Sprinzel's obituary is a very nice tribute to Marcus. Fitting that as he knew Marcus well, he wrote it from first hand experience. I guess Ray English's 'Marque One' will carry a suitable hard copy of John's obit.

To Marcus' family my condolences.

Stephen

Hi Stephen,

I know that John has sent the same to Ray for "Marque One" as he has to me for "Mascot". The only difference is that Ray noticed that John had written "Seven Year Itch" instead of "Seven Year Twitch", where I had missed it.

Hi Gary,

There's not much gets past Ray. With his archive he'll no doubt add some suitable images to John's words. I didn't even notice the title mistake until you mentioned it. Maybe you shouldn't have let the cat out of the bag.

If I recall correctly ST had a hand in coming up with the 'Seven Year Twitch' title for Marcus' 1962 autobiography.
