On today's build up to qualifying the BBC showed us an insight into McLaren's mission control at woking and the strategy engineers at the track. Eddie Jordan believes its all too much and a complete waste of money, What do you guys think???

I thought it was a good example of how out of touch EJ is with modern F1 roflmao.gif

Well, according to Martin Whitmarsh, McLaren were a pioneer in this field and it has brought them a lot. But it hasn't brought them too much success, with 'only' 3 WDCs and 2 WCCs in 11 seasons. rolleyes.gif

I liked EJ's statement, though, on the 6 million simulations you run, and the race often pans out quite differently. I, too, believe there's nothing to substitute experience and on-track insight into races.

I'd like to highlight what you said - this kind of simulation isn't a replacement for anything, it's a suppliment.

I think it's a further example as to how soulless this sport is becoming.

Well, technology is usually better, but it isn't always perfect... Wasn't this "link" part of the reason for Hamilton's botched pit-stop at Valencia? By the time the information went up through the chain and back down again, the real-world action was already happening...

And what happens if you're checking out at the grocery and the computers crash? Granted, it doesn't happen often, but when it does, everything stops.

'Mission Control' isn't the epicenter, they are still making the decisions on the pitwall. They can call the plays as they happen, it doesn't have to go through the entire system. McLaren's strategy problems are more attitudinal than structural.
