It seems all too American for me... it seems to have lost what it was meant to be.
I think Dirt had the right balance of arcade and realism, and traditional rallying and alternative forms of rallying... but Dirt 2 has just gone
too American and arcadey for me. The cars don't look like WRC rally cars anymore, the focus seems to be slipping from point to point rallying to other types of rallying... and I just don't see how it's really anything McRae really did too often. Yes, he did the X Games a few times, but that is no excuse to suddenly change the focus to an X Games type experience.
I think McRae's name needs to be taken off of the product. The brand could easily survive as just Dirt.
Oh, and Travis Pastrana's voice winds me up like hell
Seriously, it's so American (sorry, I can't think of a better way to describe it) it is really quite off-putting. Not to mention when drivers are talking to you whilst you're driving. My favourite one is when Travis goes "Yo, everyone's quiet! What's up?", or something along those lines. Ridiculous, I think.
CM 2005 was a little too focused on point-to-point rallying (but still an awesome game), CM Dirt was a little bit too quick of a step away from traditional rallies such as Finland (but still an awesome game), but CM Dirt 2 has just gone a step too far for me.
Please note: When I say American, it is by no means meant as an insult. When I say it, I mean it is generally geared too much towards the American market as opposed to the European one. A balance should be found.
