i've no idea why phillip morris pays the estimated 200m/year to sponsor ferrari with some strange bar code... who's starting to smoke because of that or is switching to malboro? if you don't know malboro by now, you're either non-smoker and by that not interested in tobacco or you smoked the same cigarettes all your life... so the bar code sponsorship helps a sh1t in terms of making the brand known among the public - imho. improving the brand's image? doubt that. i simply dont get it... Oo if i was phillip morris ceo or whatever i'd quit that contract asap
/e: i know the team is called "scuderia ferrari marlboro", but that doesn't change a lot, imo.
Its all about the brand. Plus, Cigarette companies are so heavily restricted from spending their sponsorship dollar anywhere else...

They should allow Tobacco sponsorship back into F1. Honestly if you are dumb enough to take up smoking just because you saw it on the back wing of a Ferrari then chances are you wouldnt be living very long anyway.
In about 4 or 5 years there will be no Alcohol advertising either. Stupid.
Yup, sooner or later those busy bodies who decided it wasn't right to see fag advertising or smell smoke in pubs will be suckered by their own punch - because things they enjoy be it booze or something else, will be the new evil that they can't enjoy without being branded 'stupid'.

I reckon we may expect entrant 'Emirates Brawn Mercedes' on the grid, next season, as some sort of a factory effort, alongside 'Vodafone McLaren Mercedes'.
If so, there would not only be Silver Arrows on the grid, but Mercedes-Benz would also return to Germany's pre-1930s official racing colour... white (presuming Brawn retain (much of) the current livery).

Clarke is a total nutter!
My main memory of his time in Champcars is when he took out three others cars at turn two of a course... on the installation lap in first practice!
He'd be a real anti-hero in F1, just what the sport needs.

This morning you said that there will be a big announcement in a few hours? Now it´s tomorrow!???
BTW who told you that?
That hyped-up big announcement had better be something other than Fernando to Ferrari because that hasn't been a secret in months and almost no one actually cares anymore, certainly not enough to cause hundreds of threads to be closed. Just saying...

I think the news that Mercedes bought into Brawn... must have helped to start putting things into place... I am sure that the managers behind the scenes were aware of this things... but the announcement of Mercedes right before Monza, must definitely be at the request of Brawn...
Looks like Brawn GP is trying to secure someone who is dealing with Ferrari...
That would be either: Kimi or Alonso....
This feels like a thriller! the suspense continues!!
Personal preference: I hope to see Kimi's helmet in Brawn colours
could be:
Brawn
+ Emirates
+ Mercedes buy-in
- Barichello
+ Rosberg/Kimi
McLaren
- Kova
+ Rosberg/Kimi
Ferrari
- Kimi
+ Alonso
+ Santander
did i muss something among these teams? ofc there are renault, williams and bmw left with some huge potential for interesting changes.

Maybe Ferrari releases Räikkönen with immediate effect to get someone who can actually score points into the car for the remainder of the season.

It this would be 2010 I would agree with you but since it's 2009 and this could be in regard to 2010 then I think that an announcement of Alonso to Ferrari next year would be pretty big news even if it's the worst kept secret. The presumed fact that Ferrari would ditch Kimi Räikkönen a year earlier and face the financial consequences of that to secure Alonso is still pretty big news in my opinion.
I think it will be interesting to see if that will actually be the case.

That would indeed be marginally more interesting than merely being fired to make room for Alonso in 2010.

It is contractually rather unlikely Ferrari can keep hanging Räikkönen in a loose noose, if they do not intend to offer Räikkönen a seat next season the chances are they must release him in time to search for alternative employment or get him to agree to altered terms, trade laws are a bitch. I sincerely doubt Räikkönen's contract grants Ferrari carte blanche w.r.t Räikkönen duties.
