Seems Rubens is a popular chappie. Maybe its because he is good value for money. However I think he will be at Williams next year. It does show that his age is not a negative factor. I wouldn't be suprised to see Rubens on the grid at 40.

I think Lewis + Kimi would be the perfect driving pair for McLaren.
Lewis is great on slow tracls while Kimi excels in fast tracks.
That could guarantee Maca a dominant season.

Exactly. I think when people talk of greed they are missing the point: it is about prestige and perceived value.

O RLY?

Is it not just "doing a Cheques Villeneuve" (your words, talking about Ralf circa 2003) ?

lol.gif Damn your bias! (your words again, sorry)

I really don't see how Kimi merits the kind of paycheck MS got. Someone please tell me?

Kimi claims he has some unfinished business at Ferrari.
With one race to go, he wants to displace McLaren from 3rd in the WCC.

And that will give the WDC to Alonso who will be consistently there is any sort of track.

True. OTOH no driver really merits the paycheck MS got - not even MS. They are all paid ridiculous amounts of money. Like I've said before, they would all settle for much, much less, like 1 million per season, if that was the standard rate for the best drivers and no one else got more, so they wouldn't feel inferior. The average drivers would then get half a million or so, and the worst would get .1 million or less, even nothing in some cases (they would bring sponsors and maybe get something from them). The salaries have inflated over a long time for who knows what reasons, certainly to satisfy big egos and marketing etc.

If LEwis is on 20m a year i can't see why Kimi would command anything more than $5m a year.

You can't say anything like that as they have never been in the same car. ohwell.gif

Well if they don't offer pay parity I can't see Kimi accepting the Mac offer. It sounds like he's started off asking for what Fernando's on at Ferrari, I can imagine him coming down to Lewis' salary but not below, that would be No2 status.

I suppose they might be negotiating about the value of the PR activities, Kimi doing less and getting less in return.

In one interview I saw on youtube (probably done some weeks ago) Kimi indicated that the media didn't know even half of the Ferrari/Santander/Kimi/Alonso deal, nor did they have a clue about the money Kimi was being paid, etc. So I wonder now just how much of all this is pure speculation and waaayyy off base.

Agreed.

That's according to a Brazilian blogger, who also said he's signed with Williams already.

Not really. He'd be a perfect teammate for Hamilton to have: experienced, quick enough to push him, things he can bequeath to him from his experience (car setup and development, etc.).

I've thrown out Barrichello's name is a potentially great teammate for Hamilton on other forums.

Interesting rumours from Joe Saward on the involvement of Petrobas:

QUOTE
There has obviously been talk of a new deal with Williams, which will have Rubens Barrichello on its books next season.

However, the latest stories suggest that Bruno Senna will be teaming up with the oil giant and Brazilian sources are reporting that a deal will be done with the Campos team, possibly with a second Brazilian as Senna’s team-mate. One suggestion is that Lucas di Grassi is a possible candidate, but that would mean two rookies, which makes little sense. Thus the name of Nelson Piquet Jr has also been mentioned. This might explain why Pedro de la Rosa is now being tipped to drive for USF1. We hear the name Jonathan Summerton as a possible USF1 driver [...]

There are stories suggesting that di Grassi is close to a deal with Virgin F1 (aka Manor) and that Petrobras might go down that path if it believes the team will be more competitive than Campos, perhaps even taking Senna with them.

Campos have confirmed they have a shortlist of four drivers: Senna, Petrov, de la Rosa and Piquet.

Sorry, Joe.

I believe the driver line-up will depend on Campos problems to set the budget.
DoLoRosa will bring experience and expense only.
Petrov is rumoured [in this board] to bring $15M.
Senna has some - small - personnal sponsors [PetroBRas will look at him with symphatetic eyes].
Piquet doesn't intend to bring money, just his experience.

Rumour: Bernie is making a lobby towards Senna and Piquet.

So...
If Campos can close their budget, it will be DoLoRosa and someone else.
If not, at least one pay driver.

Telmex/Embratel is Bruno sponsor.
BR would be involved rather with Cosworth engines than a Brazilian pilot. A partnership that we've seen in 2006.
If Petrobras wants to return to F1 with a non-manufacturer team, Williams is the natural choice.

But we all know how that has ended.

It's kind of different, isn't it ?

For the stablished teams, the talk is: how much should the team pay for the driver.
For new teams, the discussion is: how much the driver should pay to the team.

So for most of current teams, what counts is driver skills mostly, while for new teams, money gets in the way. ohwell.gif

- Williams choses Cosworth as engine supplier for 2006 after their partnership with BMW came to an end. Williams retain Petrobras as sponsor and fuel supplier.
- The Woking Groove team choses Toyota as engine supplier for 2007.
- Petrobras doesn't appreciate the results (marketing/technical) during the 2006-2008 seasons.
- The Oil company states that the a partnership with a manufacturer works team is desired.
- Petrobras leaves Williams at the end of 2008 for an attempt of partnership with Honda.
- Honda pulls out F1 at the end of the same year.
- The Brazilian company denies to take part at Honda buy-out or to sponsor any individual driver (B. Senna).
- Petrobras loses it's links with F1 as all other manufacturer teams already had fuel supply contracts well established.

Heikki will move to Toyota to partner Kobayashi, Glock will be at Renault next to Kubica.

Grosjean will be without a drive, di Grassi will go to Manor. Trulli wil be the lead driver at Lotus.

The only thing that can maybe upset this arrangement is if Williams insists on its stupidness of banning BMW from being allowed to race as a 14th team, which would launch Heidfeld into the market, as its expected that he will stay there unless Kimi doesn't sign with Mclaren.

Nick will be at Mclaren if the deal with Kimi misfires for any reason.

But he is supposed to stay at Sauber.

But if Kimi does sign with mclaren and Sauber can't make it to the grid next year, then Nick might have a problem, although at least one of the 13 teams will definitely go for his services.

And by the way, if Williams manages to block Sauber from running next year, the thing that will be most supporting next year will be for them to finish the WCC out of the top 10, to get no FIA money, which is basically the reason why they insist on blocking Sauber from getting a formal 14th slot.

All that talk about logistics is just pure BS.

That would be a bad line up for Toyota, if anything the signs are Toyota could be set to re-sign Trulli, despite all the fuss over Kobayashi it was noted Howett was not overly impressed with Kamui's race pace.

Can't see why would Toyota sign Heiki? Because he costs less than Glock and Trulli? That's could be the only reason.

Agreed. Though the thought of Toyota binning the 'crap' Trulli and Glock in order to strengthen their team with Kobayashi and Kovalainen is very amusing. I wouldn't be surprised to hear that this is their last season, surely the board has taken enough pain?
GitarreroNils
In Motorsport Aktuell #44 John Howett is quoted as saying the following about Heikki Kovalainen:

Kovalainen is a non-issue for Toyota. "We were in negotiations with him 2 years ago. He declined. Something like this isn't well received in Japan. Because of this he isn't on our short-list. Then we rather keep Timo Glock."

Doesn't look good for Heikki....and Timo gets a slap in the face too, if I read between the lines correctly down.gif
Arion
I'm starting to feel sorry for Toyota, no one wants to drive for them.

GitarreroNils
It is also said in the same issue (MSA #44) that Kazuki Nakajima is in talks with Manor. He was driving with the team in British F3 few years ago. John Booth is seeing a solid option in him with a lot technical knowledge and experience for a beginners team.

Also Karun Chandhok was brushed-off at Lotus. He wanted to convince the team with awful lot of money. But the team said, that they're talking with 5 different drivers and money isn't the crucial point.

Is this bad news for Fairuz Fauzy also...??
