I now don't think USF1 will make it to the grid.

Hope you're right about that.

How can a fan hope that there will be two cars less? I just don't get that logic; I want to see as much cars as possible. In the past so many talented drivers have been neglected by F1 because there weren't enough cars. More cars also means more on track action, more overtaking oportunities and it gives young drivers mroe chance to grow year by year. It also gives more transfer rumours in the silly season; so that's something that would be beneficial to us because we like to discuss these things on forums.

Joe Saward sees A.D. Davidson at Lotus.

I hope there will be more announcements soon - now that the season is over. Only about 10 out of 26/28 drivers for next year are fixed. Some manufacturers should be interested in knowing the drivers before the critical stages of car development.
Captain Tightpants
QUOTE (lustigson @ Nov 3 2009, 20:57) *

Joe Saward also interpreted Campos' deal with the Murcia government as a sign the team was in trouble. He reported that Dallara had missed the deadline to finish the chassis, and so Campos were going to take whatever they had and finish it themselves with whatever money they could raise from local investors.

What's your source?

See, I'm not believing this one, because Adrian Campos himself has said they have a shortlist of four drivers: Bruno Senna, Vitaly Petrov, Pedro de la Rosa and Nelson Piquet Jnr.

We don't know that for certain. For all we know, Toyota may be looking to back out, sell the team and stay on as an engine supplier. That way the Toyota name stays in the sport, but they don't actually have to run the team. Or maybe they've already made up their minds that they want to stay in and have decided to announce it early.

I since found the original article: http://www.auto-motor-und-sport.de/formel-...en-1449542.html

It just says that Toyota will decide on the 8th of November about their future in F1. If they continue, Trulli and Kobayashi will likely be their driver line-up.

My God. All Toyota do is say that they're making an announcement soon, and everyone is convinced they're withdrawing, Sauber are returning and Kobayashi is out of a drive.

This is not correct.

AMuS says Toyota will announce on Sunday ( 8th of November 2009 ) their plans for F1 ( in 2010 ).

Another source, the Independent newspaper in Britain expects "bad news" from Toyota in their announcement.

These are the facts.

Even if Toyota quit it doesn't mean Sauber are back on the grid. They have signed the CA and have a valid place and team that can be sold. It was BMW's mistake to not do the same.

Bernie is pushing for Piquet to go to Campos, but some reports suggest that since Campos have Senna, they won't need Piquet because the team will be financially set.

Perhaps a straight swap: Kovalainen to Force India, Sutil to McLaren?

And what kind of announcement could it be, realistically? An "announcement about the future" definitely sounds like they're withdrawing, except for an outside chance that they could be announcing their drivers. But what drivers? They've annoyed both of their main guys to the point it's obvious neither will remain there. They've went like headless chickens after Raikkonen and Kubica and both told them to bugger off. All they have is Kobayashi and there's no solid rumours about anyone else to partner him.

Meanwhile we all know that:
- their team is a giant black hole of money, which has given them zero success
- every japanese manufacturer seems to be pulling out of every motorsport competition after the economic crysis
- it's been often rumoured that the reason they didn't renew with Trulli or Glock is because they couldn't guarantee there'd be a team next year. In fact I think Howett himself even hinted at it!
- they have confirmed that if they stay next year, they'd have a smaller budget

It's not looking good for the people at their factory, at all. But hey I'd rather have Sauber in the grid, even if owned by some soulless shady company, than Toyota.

That makes much more sense. There isn't any better seat open for Sutil other than the about-to-be-extinct seat at Toyota, Raikkonen's place at Mac or Glock's place at Renault.

Interesting. Earlier he said team used option to continue their relationship.
apoka
It is quite likely that Sutil will be at FI next year. They are probably just negotiating salary and contract details. Whether Sutil is in a strong position or not depends to some extent on the likelihood of Sauber being in F1 next year (2 more free places in a potentially good car).
potmotr
Sutil is more or less the team leader at Force India.

The McLaren partnership seems to be working very well.

Makes sense for him to stay I reckon.

He's getting less wild these days, a slow-maturing talent a bit like Nico Rosberg.

Maybe, but Toyota aren't completely stupid. Nakajima has the inenviable title of being the only driver to contest every race of the season without scoring a single point. They're said to be looking at Kovalainen as well, and while Heikki might have had a similarly-disappointing season, at least he's capable.
