BBC Sport says that L'Equipe says that "The bid led by Luxembourg businessman Gerard Lopez and his Mangrove Capital Partners organisation - under its brand Genii Capital - is emerging as the favourite to take over the Renault team, with F1 impresario Bernie Ecclestone pushing former BAR team principal Craig Pollock as team boss. A bid by Prodrive boss David Richards remains the other option."

Sounds like Renault might be strung up by the Pollocks.

I can tell you that:
  • Alvaro Parente has a very strong chance of driving for Campos Dallara, but it could still be Petrov or Maldonado.
  • I am 100% certain that Pedro de la Rosa is not going to US F1.
  • Prodrive is very likely to buy Renault.
  • I am 95% certain that Lucas di Grassi will be announced at Virgin in the next few weeks.

Happy now?

What about that Luxemburg investment company or whatever it is that is supposed to be fighting with Prodrive to buy Renault? Apparently Bernie feels more inclined for them (I can recall reading about him saying that he is sure we will see a team named Renault next year and the year after that, etc., and this people from Luxemburg is supposed to keep the name and of course Prodrive isn't), and you know if Bernie wants it... of course I will prefer the Prodrive/Aston Martin option, but it is not about what I or we would like...
Nice to know Álvaro has so much chances.
I've read in the Spanish press that there still could come a surprise from De La Rosa. Now,also according to the Spanish press, Lucas Di Grassi would have had a priority pre-contract in Guerrieri style, but, always according to them (I think I read it on Racingpasión), that priority expired last friday ( if I remember well) and Lucas couldn't get the money asked (also in Guerrieri style), so now the seat could go to the best bidder, and the Spaniards say the Andy Soucek already has enough money. I don't know how reliable Racingpasión is anyway.

Lucas di Grassi is waiting to see what happens to Renault before he commits.
and unofficially...
Ross Brown is waiting to see what happens to Renault before he select the 2nd driver.
Nick Heidfeld is waiting to see what happens to Renault before he sign to a team.
Peter Sauber is waiting to see what happens to Renault before he sign or sign not Nick Heidfeld.

When will the Renault situation be clear?

stoned.gif Nor I. Makes for a hell of a 2010 season though. I am really going to enjoy next year. Here's why...

No BMW, Toyota or Renault? I'm fine with that.

No Kimi Raikkonen? Possibly no Trulli? 100% Max and Flav free. Refuelling ban, no KERS and narrow front rubber? Like Christmas morning!

Gascoyne at Lotus. Senna at Campos. Return of the Silver Arrows. Return of Prodrive and Richards (Gulf livery pleeease). Vettel v Webber II. Two Brit wdc's in a Brit team. Alonso at Ferrari. All wonderful things....

Oh, did I mention NO KIMI? clap.gif

Who's with me?

Woah! You really must know something abot Kimi´s private life I don´t..

Yesterday: Bernie - With now 4 potential buyers of Renault it make take till into the new year before we know Renault's future.

Today: Haug - Change of plans, we are waitin till into next year potentially before we choose the second Merc driver.

It's not Schumacher they are waiting on, but I'll tell you who they are waiting on...

Have to agree Ralf had impressive results.. (just checked and he got 27 podiums, more than I imagined!)

But he's such an a-hole... I wouldn't consider him for a team like Sauber which is in reconstruction or something.. he would demotivate everyone in a 300km radius..

Unlike Ralf, Fisichella spent two years in championship winning cars. During that time he won 2 races, another 6 podiums, 2 poles and one fastest lap... That's 2/3 wins, 8/19 podiums, 2/4 poles, 1/2 fastest laps during his time at Renault.

Ralf never drove a championship winning car but won 6 races, achieve 27 podiums overall, got 6 poles and 8 fastest laps.

I know it's just stastics... but still...

/edit: to sum it up, imo Ralf is not as bad as his reputation.
Well, he's still #2 when it comes to success (GP wins) of German F1 drivers... #1 being Micheal ofc. Dunno, some might consider this a shame for Germany ;)

Germany does not have a very strong record in F1 if you discard MS (only four? GP winners, only one WDC). There is, however, some hope that Vettel will be more successful than Ralf. smile.gif

Michael Schumacher, Ralf Schumacher, Sebastian Vettel, Heinz-Harald Frentzen, Wolfgang von Trips and Jochen Mass, that's 6 from the top of my head.

Plus European Grand Prix Championship, Rudolf Carricola, Bernd Rosemeyer, Hermann Lang, Manfred von Brauchitsch and Hans Stuck. (There was also Hermann Paul Muller)

All from the top of my head, so there could be more.

Germany has only had 2 Motorcycle Grand Prix winners aswell.

This is what TS writes: Kovalaisen F1-uran jatkuminen on pitkälti kiinni Sauberista. Kun Kubica jää Renaultille, Nick Heidfeld on vahvin ehdokas Mercedekselle Nico Rosbergin tallikaveriksi. Peter Sauber itse taas ei ole kiinnostunut Giancarlo Fisichellan palkkaamisesta takaisin, vaikka Ferrari häntä tarjoaakin. Toisen paikan Sauberilla vie joku rahaa tuova kuljettaja – Bertrand Baguette, Petrov tai Kobayashi.

Whether Kovalainen's F1-career will continue, is up to Sauber. As Kubica will remain at Renault, Nick Heidfeld is the strongest candidate to team up with Nico Rosberg at Mercedes. Peter Sauber, on the other hand, is not keen on re-signing Giancarlo Fisichella, despite being offered by Ferrari. The other Sauber seat will be filled by some driver bringing money - Bertrand Baguette, Petrov or Kobayashi.

Interesting, if P.Sauber wouldn't hire Fisi. And one wonders, naturally, how many seats Petrov & Kobayashi will occupy in the end...

The prospect of having Petrov or Baguette as team mates is probably another argument for Heidfeld to prefer Mercedes. You cannot really shine against those unestablished drivers. You can beat them fair and square as everyone expects and still earn no reputation.

TS is a finnish paper...i think that when PS talk about an experienced driver it means Fisi, Trulli or Heidfeld. If Nick goes to Merc i think that Fisi will be at Sauber, the strong Ferrari connection (engine and powertrain) will help Fisi to grab the seat and PS always like Fisi. The other seat for a rookie could see Petrov or Kobayashi, we have to wait the Renault choice about the second seat...
About Kova...i really don't know...probably the best option could be Renault or a new team.

8 podiums, not 6. And lost around another 8 due to car failures and teamorders. Fisi proved in 97, and more recently in the FI shootout, he is better than Ralf.
