Well it's off to Kansas, one of the cookie cutter 1.5 mile D-ovals.

Tune-in schedule: http://www.nascar.com/races/tune_in/

Qualifying Friday evening, Nationwide race Saturday afternoon, Cup race Sunday afternoon.

Montoya's finishes of 28th and 20th in his first two visits mean he averages a 24th place finish. He's got the same average finish in Las Vegas, though he does better at Chicagoland with a best finish of 10th and an average of 14th. Of course he does better at Atlanta and Texas, which are of similar length, but they are quad ovals.

So this is a track of, for me, even lower expectations. A solid, serious trouble-free day should get him out of there with a top-10. Of course EGR bespoke a car just for this race, and the last time they did that, they ran a solid 4th with what realistically was a car that could have finished 2nd if the cautions had fallen differently.

First Practice coming up in an hour or so.
JPM/Target bringing another fresh car for the third race in a row, hope it's a good one, the next three races will be on the same type of track.

man.. those Hendrick cars are really pushing it.. The 5,48 & the 8 are the only 3 cars so far that can keep an average speed above 170 mph..

Actually the #1 also..
JPM is averaging.. 169.536
OfficeLinebacker
JPM up to 2nd fastest in the currently ongoing (and about to finish) practice.
OfficeLinebacker
Qualified 14th after practicing third. There was a HUGE jump in speeds from practice to qualy.

I can almost see Keselowski causing an accident in the race, whatever, just don't take out JPM.

Check out NASCAR.com, they often have a free radio stream.

I forget the name of the network that almost always broadcasts the races, just Google "NASCAR Radio"
Mary Popsins
The results of the "regular season" should be of no importance in a Chase event, otherwise Jimmie Johnson wouldn't have again a 50 pc chance to win.
OfficeLinebacker
Parker Kligerman on pole in his first N'wide start?

Happy Hour going on now:

http://www.nascar.com/races/leaderboard/cup/practice/

Montoya 4th so far.

He was 17th in practice 2.

Not burning down the barn like the last two races. Maybe this time it will be a top-15 is OK with a top-10 in sight.
BMW_F1
they are making some good adjustments but I noticed that the speeds have dropped in this session. On average lap time JPM is the faster car of this last practice.
Phucaigh
Nice of Hamlin to warn Crashelowski...

It seems there could be trouble with the racing surface at Kansas Speedway. That trouble would be with the seams. The tar filling the seams, to be exact, is sending the Sprint Cup cars off their intended course. #2-Kurt Busch called it, "The tar of death". #24-Jeff Gordon said, "The seams are unreal. I don't know if they put a different sealer on them or what's going on. The seams, beside the wind, are playing havoc today." The four-time champion said the tar-covered seams are forcing drivers to make decisions. "You either got to go above them, straddle them or somehow get below them," Gordon said. "It's definitely challenging." Busch said, "Last year I had a hard time here at Kansas. I don't know when they put that tar sealant down to help with drainage, water getting into the cracks and pot holes developing or big bumps&(but) I couldn't go from the second lane to the third lane or the second lane back to the first lane without crossing the 'tar of death'. It was tough."

Quick heads up to anyone watching in the UK.

SkySports 3 is putting the start of the race on it's 'interactive' RedButton starting at 7pm
Then, after the peanut chasing, it goes onto the main channel around 8:30pm

NASCAR races generally last about 3-5 hours.
OfficeLinebacker
Green flag in about 30 or so minutes I believe.

Counting on you guys to give us play by play race unfolding us always. There is nothing in my part of the world that is broadcasting NASCAR. Gee I miss Eurosport of yesteryear, along with Indycar and Nascar.

Keeping my fingers crossed for a decent race tonight!

F1 was an absolute disaster earlier today and Moto GP even more...

I am absolutely surprised there˙s no sign of rain tonight in Kansas! tongue.gif

Fvck I hate that Coors Light ad with the NASCAR cars "racing" through snow! They won't even run if someone spits on the track and most of the redneck fans have never heard of rallying and think Finland is a town in Nebraska that makes mobile phones. down.gif down.gif

So a top 10 would be a good result for Montoya? It's going to be tuff not to expecting him in the top 5...again...I'm getting used to it!

Well, let´s see if I can watch this one.

5 seconds of viewing and "we have reached maximum number of streams in your country".

Not exactly promising... frown.gif

I'm listening to Max Papis' radio since he was on TV for a second. he's wondering if people are spinning out cos of contact or just losing it. Confirmed that it's all people just losing it by themselves on the high side.

Max' crew chief Bootie Barker told the spotter "hey Roman I know you have a lot of influence up there on the spotter's stand. go tell everyone to run the high side."

Another spin in the middle of the pack, Paul Menard spin in Turn 2 collecting David Ragan, Bobby Labonte, Bobby Labonte and Michael Waltrip.

Looks like Montoya listened and eek.gif is on the high side, passing cars left and right...
OfficeLinebacker
It's amazing, about a few laps into the run Monty is just passing the cars around 10th place like they are standing still...Edwards...kenseth...Hamlin....Bowyer...

You can see the relative speed on the TV!
OfficeLinebacker
Yeah I mean it's got no ****ing grip.--Jeff Gordon after being passed by #42

Montoya on Gordon...LOL I don't want the inside line! "what an ass", said Montoya
BMW_F1
JPM already found is line.. he was fastest car on that last lap.. up to 8th.. nice..
Dispenser89
Nice charge from Monty.
OfficeLinebacker
JPM: "Now that everyone else has moved up a lane, I'm getting aero tight."
4L3X
Spotter: "everybody is trying to di what you're doing, not quite doin' it though" Yeah, they're spinning! LOL

Spunout,

I got the same problem. Solved it with trying this.

You don't have to be a computergeek to understand these instructions.

Good luck!

42 is plowing like crazy now. I think I heard about 11 laps to pit?
OfficeLinebacker
Really loose on brakes, and snappy loose on power application, "like the pressures are too high."

He's really slowing down now, from easily being one of the top three fastest within the top 15 to being only about as fast as Jeffie.

The good news is he has a big gap back to the guy behind him, Jeffie, so he's OK

Then just as I'm typing that last sentence he goes and rips off another fast lap, he was third fastest that time.
Knowlesy
Doing Mark martin pace now. Baaad news.

Looks like an F1 fan has rated this thread. drunk.gif

those guys from the pit-crew are awesome.. The gas man while fueling the car bends his knee backwards and sticks his foot out to stop the tire from rolling.. ****ing.. guy .. that was cool.. smoking.gif

Junior's crew mess up. Shame.

Edwards speeding in pitlane.

Dude...remember I told you about the forward bite, that it was crappy? It's freaking HORRIBLE now. --Juan

Shortly after the caution came out:

Juan: Sliding the rear...turns better.

Brian...want wedge or track bar? Juan--I think track bar.

Brian: We'll go one down on the track bar, four tyres and gas.
Dispenser89
Caution out. Sorensen wall rubbing.
