Over the years there have been lots of riders who were almost unbeatable on certain circuits yet didn't seem to do it anywhere else for whatever reason, There must have been loads. I suppose most will be club/national level riders. I remember Griff Roberts being like this at Mallory. Any pics of Griff anyone?Steve Bevington too, same circuit?

Keith Sanderson, Colin Breeze at Mallory . Also Derek Chatterton at Cadwell and Derek Huxley at Oulton although
both Dereks were good on other circuits as well. Might have a photo of Steve Bevington somewhere.

John Newbold at Mallory, Phil and Ron H at Cadwell, Rex Butcher at the Palace, The Mint of course at Brands. Tho all of thes were not exacly slow anywhere. Good topic, Coupe.

IIRC Griff Roberts still holds the record for the highest number of wins at Mallory, 350+, he was no slouch either at Darley and Cadwell.

Colin Breeze on his GS1000 engined Atom was great. I think he had a Ford Granada and a trailer.Bits of duck tape everywhere holding it together I may have picked Keith Sanderson out of the gravel marshalling at Coppice on a GSXR1100. First rider to crash one in the UK I reckon. 'Course it might not have been him or was it? I can never make my mind up or can I?

I remember Griff on the CB900 taking to the grass on the Gerrards exit, not shutting off much on the grass half the straight, coming back and winning the race.Great rider to watch always.

Yes he was always quick, I remember last seeing him in the early 90's on a GSXR1100 riding in the 1300cc open class. He once passed me in practice on the long straight at Darley, I was flat out on my 350 and when he came past I thought I'd stopped!! I also recall him riding a TR or TD Yam a few years prior to that.

I forget who his team mate was then Mick, John Newbold Trophy and Griff crashed in a heat, mangled his GSXR and himself, borrowed team mate's bike and may have won or was third, broke something in his hand or arm and still did the biz

Does the name Two Wheeled Services ring any bells? Griff hailed from Tamworth I think and they were local to there. His only team mate I can remember was called David....erm ? and IIRC he wrecked his elbow in an accident at, I think, Mallory. The memory's going a bit dim tha' knows

Another circuit specialist I remember from around the same time was Keith Lewis who was always quick at Darley and Cadwell. Anyone remember him?

Joe Dunphy I allways thought of as the master of Palace Derek Minter King of Brands Mick Chatterton & Sid Machin the Lincolnshire 'yellow bellies'of Cadwell Bob Mac the hero of Oulton Barry Sheen the conquorer of Scarborough John Cooper Mallory and of coarse not to forget Joe Dunlop the King Of the Mountain. Mind you Mike the Bike has to fit in here somewhere as well as J.H P.R P. W. ect.

Isn´t it significant that someone like Mike didn´t have a favorite track? He was just brilliant everywhere.

Well done Renn.... He was said to have been chosen to ride the Ivy bike as he almost never crashed, which I think was probably true. But then he never quite achieved either did he ?

Yes Arthur, in the mid sixties, Joe was the boy to beat at the Palace. Griff Jenkins usually gave him a run for his money, sometimes winning too. Rex was quick there as well, especially later on with the Yams.

Yeah a good rider Renn, but just didn't crash enough...... Was it Hailwood who, after learning that Ralph Bryans hadn't crashed all season, told Bryans that he wasn't trying nearly hard enough ..?

Yeah Kevin was so lanky he couldn't stick his knee out like the shorter riders (Rainey, Roberts, etc)
did it more of a human 'outrigger' so to speak. Man, I loved watching him ride!

That's what I meant CP . We were on the bank by Glen Helen for the Senior in '67 , during his titanic battle with ' Ago ' and to see Mike wrestle the pig standing on the footrests was frightening to watch , a man of steel , no doubt .

Yes you are correct everyone loved him and he rode hard all the time, lap records and race records, conditions allowing, at all tracks. I remember him being lapped at Mallory riding the 500/4 can't remember the year but the conditions were awful, rain and sleet but when most would have pulled in on that bike, when he came out of the hairpin he always looked back and if he was getting caught he would get out of the way and not hold them up and he just kept going to finish! Nothing to prove but he knew the fans had come to see him ride.

I was in the Island in 1968, my 21st birthday as well, I walked down the road from Glen Helen Hotel and the man that stood out for me was Pasolini way faster and wilder than anyone else between the walls, quite frightening. Another one of those moments you will never forget.

I was also there in '68 but was lucky enough to get Renzo's autograph when he retired at the Creg Hotel on the 350 in '67 , mind you , it cost me a fag , a fair exchange I reckon in the circumstances

Ron Haslam was virtually unbeatable around Donington for a while in the early 80s, and Mr Henshaw went especially well at Brands (usually the Powerbike weekend) Mallory and Scarborough.
Mr Sheene always seemed to shine (sorry...) at Anderstorp IIRC.
Whatever happened to Anderstorp BTW?
