Whatever happened to Anderstorp BTW?

That's what it looked like a few years ago ( well, in 88 blush.gif ....)

...and a little story I wrote on the car forum about this visit

Anderstorp about 10 years ago was a good memory . I had been there in 1975 for the first ever motorbike GP I attended , and came back 20 odd years later on a lonely weekday in this rather deserted swedish forest area...Not a soul in sight of course , so I managed to sneak in the paddock with my car , and noticed the gate to the track was not locked.....with great excitement ( and to my wife's utmost annoyance....) I pulled the gate open, started to drive my Ford Sierra onto the tarmac....and suddenly some loud yelling in swedish comes out of the speaker system , I step out of the car , raise my hands in faked despair and non-understanding, pointing to my french numberplate....and the voice says in English " this is an airfield....get out of there immediately " ....the guy was probably watching me from the control tower of the landing strip which was used as Anderstorp's main straight ....

Found a pic, new I had some.

Cracker of Griff, one of the most underrated club racers of the 80's/early 90's IMHO, he was a good machine set-up man and a quick rider to boot, just a shame he didn't get a chance on some works tackle in the UK, he would have done well, commitment was his middle name.

I think he still holds the record for wins at Mallory Park, 350+, what a trooper!! up.gif

Bloody good also on Pete Webb and Dave Chapmans' (Granville Motorcycles) big Norton twin, which I think was originally the ex Geoff Barry Oakley Norton.
What about Bob Stevenson (Spondon Eng.) at Darley (local track for local riders) on his 350 Greeves. It was a good bloke on a Yam who could 'sniff' him.

Griff on that CB900 was nuts....used to beat lots of TZ's on that he did eek.gif Hilly on the BM stuffing the RG's too....Does anyone have a photo anywhere of Vince Whiteman on the Harris Z900 at Mallory? It was Excorcist green and he pulled the most enormous wheelies out of the hairpin. biggrin.gif Never won but was right there with them.
