After Massa and now Glock's crashes in qualifying it got me thinking, should there be a change in the rules to allow a replacement driver to compete in the race even if they didn't take part in qualifying? There would have to be some limitations to stop qualifying ringers etc, maybe start from the back of the grid and/or be approved by the stewards with a list of pre-approved reasons. It just seems like a shame for a team to only field one car when they have a second driver and a car there and able to race.

What do you think?

Without the warmup session for at least a brief track time it would be too dangerous put a new driver on the car.

They should bring the warm-up back anyway, now that the qualifying with race fuel is done away with.

It's difficult, I think, but safety should be first. A driver should have participated in a practise session to race on Sunday, but after that, should be ok after qualify (start from pitlane)

No, Formula 1 is a drivers' championship in the first place. The driver gets qualified, not the car.

The post-qualifying parc fermé will continue to exist.

But these days qualifying isn't about making the race just where you start so why (apart from the practice/safety issue) can't a driver take over the car and start in last/the pit lane?
