Remember how I always said that the 2008 F1 cars looked the best? To me anyway. Well I still believe that. But I also said the 09 cars looked hideous! And they did! But lately with all the new aero pieces evolving on the cars, they look great now! Just compare a car from Melbourne to now! So yea I am really enjoyng the look of the cars alot now, thanks to the aero guys!

I shall buy a late model 09 Ferrari for sure! Oh and a Brawn and a Redbull.

If only the racing could be improved as well...can't have everyhing in life I guess...
they look ok, but these new rules failed.

Ugh, the front wings are too wide to start with, and with all the aero flips and flaps being stuck on them they look repulsive, not worthy of being called F1 cars IMO. Last year's cars looked far better and more proportioned, despite all the little aero bits on them.

They took some getting used, but I'm now finding that it's the previous years cars that look odd.

Well I never said they look better than the 08 cars, thats impossible, but they sure have improved 110% since Melb., for me anyway...

No they didn't. Not unless you read the OWG's task of "reducing the dirty air created by a car and reducing the following car's susceptibility to it" as "making overtaking really, really easy".
The new rules succeeded in what they set out to do, but that's only part of the story when it comes to overtaking.
I still don't like those designs at all...

At first I didn't like the tall and narrow back wing, now I found it nicer than 2008 version. Took time to get used to. But front wings are still too wide, BMWs' and Renaults' noses are ugly, McLarens are fat and Force India livery sucks. The rest of the grid is very good looking though.
The narrow rear wing still looks a bit odd to me. The front wing still looks a lot better than last year - could maybe be a tad narrower but imagine how bad they'd look if they were as high as last year. The rest of the car looks great without tall the winglets. '08 cars were ugly.

I prefer some older cars, but at least the 2009 cars don't look like the Transformers of 2008. They've certainly improved since the start of the season.

To each his own with the '08 and '09 cars, but imho that is in no way worth £75. Last years cars I can understand as theres a million bits of aero to reproduce, but that looks like a cheap children's toy more than anything else.

i'll get the mclaren as i've got all the chrome ones so far. will be an interesting comparison with the '08 car.
i've not been too much of a fan of the brawn livery, apart from at Singapore, the Canon branding on the sidepods set off the look of the car just right and I thought it looked great. Shame they'd taken it off for Suzuka.

Can't agree. The new front wings still look far too big and the bookshelf rear wing is still minging.
And don't forget, the racing is NO better than it was before the aero changes.
Thanks Max Mosley, you moron!

It's just that in the last few races, well the last 5 races or something, I actually have been enjoying looking at the cars. Of course I got used to them as well, but really all those extra aero pieces did the trick! Like decorations on a christmas tree lol.
And I know they are crap race cars, but this thread is about looks only really...

Oct 4 2009, 11:28
They look better in the angled or helicopter shots. But the frontal ones still look like crap too me, the front and the back wing doesn't look like it belongs to the same care and I can't help it.
They were horrible at first and they continue to be horrible. I'll certainly will not buy any scale model.

Same here, they still look out of proportion front and rear, basically because they are. Snow plough at the front and skinny at the rear.

They are looking just as bad now as they did at the start of the year. I sure hope the OWG gets shoved back in the wind tunnel and told they can't come out until they fix the problems.

Oct 4 2009, 16:01
Yes, If they just make the front wing smaller I think these cars will look very good. Also

shark fin.
BUT next year the cars will be better, no stupid wheel covers and the skinnier front tires are actually a good thing.
If we can only go back to that size front wing/car width...

I miss the shark gills. Thats about it. The winglets were nice to look at given the total package, and probably gave more of an armchair guide to performance, but i can do without them with how crazy they were getting.
The only real problem with the 2008 cars was the front wing had to curve upwards from the middle. I never liked that rule.

Races back then could be pretty dull, but I guess nostalgia can cloud one's memory?
I really miss the sleek and purposeful look of the cars before 1993. In 1993 the tires got too skinny and F1 cars started to look like junior formula cars. When I look at today's cars all I can think about is regulations.
They really should go back to something more like the 1992 bodywork and tire regulations and just add lots of weight to control speed.

They most certainly could, but nothing could match the dullness of the last couple of seasons. The only exciting races (Brazil 2008 for example) were held in mixed conditions sometimes with strange circumstances. We haven't had a great dry race since Interlagos 2006.

I thought this year's Austrailian GP was awesome. Brazil 2007 wasn't too bad either watching Ham drive like a madman through the field
Oh and let us not forget 1988, wouldn't call that season too interesting, but for the most part racing was better.
