Full Version: Who has best chance of beating Button for WDC-RB or Vettel

Until Japan, I thought RB had a very solid chance of winning, but that second stint, cooked him, I think, as to winning.
If he had stayed with Kimi, he might have been 5th or even 4th..instead he ends up one place in front of JB..but....

Now it would seem that all Jensen need do is run a couple of places behind RB, and the title is his.

He blames tires, suggesting that maybe they should have used the option: http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/79289

I do not know what the reason was, was it tyres, driver, or what?

But I just do not see him busting out a couple of wins to overtake Jens or anything like that over JB, with enough points in terms of finishing in places ahead of JB to make much difference

Vettel on the other hand seems to have best chance as to winning and taking down JB if the Brawns are running like they did at Japan, except how much longer before one of those enginess blows....and leaves him in the ruins.....

So not talking numbers here (as to if RB gets x points and so on)....Just the bottom line before Brazil: (1) who has the best chance over the other at thened of the season and (2) do you think one or the other does actually pull JB down and take the title?

as though you were putting your money down on a bet.....

RB isn't the best abbreviation for Rubens Barrichello in context with Vettel...

Anyway, Barrichello has best chances imo, but I still think it's not Vettel or Barrichello who are going to determine who is going to be World Champion, it's Button, because the title is his to lose.

Vettel has to have the better chance. Assuming Vettel wins Brazil, Barrichello 2nd, Button nowhere; that would give Vettel and Barrichello 79 and Button 85. If Vettel gets to 2nd in Abu Dhabi, Barrichello has to be in the lead to beat him. And if he is not, Brawn will sacrifice his race to get Button to fifth.

Sorry, I meant Rubens, not Ross Brawn, but now that you mention it.....

Ross Brawn, Rubens Barrichello, Red Bull, all RB's tongue.gif

I doubt Button will do a Hamilton and throw the WDC away, he's way more experienced than Lewis was in 2007 and will do the right thing (not go for the wins, but simply stay close to Rubens).

I'd say that between the two of them Vettel has a greater chance of getting the championship, I just think it's going to be too hard for Barrichello to overhaul Button in two races... over all the races so far this year, it's only Valencia where Barrichello has been able to make a significant dent in Button's lead whilst driving the same car. On the other hand Vettel is in a different car, and the Red Bull does seem to be stronger than the Brawn now, giving him I think a better chance of taking big points out of Button.

At the end of the day though I think that Button should be able to do enough in Brazil and Abu Dhabi to take the title.

Jb will win in Brazil, unless there is an incident, but given jb is in the same car as rb, obviously sv has a better chance. Red bull can produce a quicker car than jenson, brawn is brawn, so same car.

Btw, I reckon that if jenson leads the race with rb close behind on the last corner of the last lap, he will let rubens past.

It is his last chance to finally win a home gp, and I reckon jenson would do that given he would win the wdc.

Vettel, because he has a different car, so its in a way easer to outperform Button if his car is great. In the same car Button probably won't loose 14 points.

I agree with DarthWillie. Button may not be super fast anymore, but loosing 14 points in two races against his team mate seems unlikely. On the other hand, Vettel can hope that the Red Bulls are significantly faster than the Brawns.
(Even then, the odds are against Vettel for actually winning the WDC. I hope that it will be decided in the last race, but fear that the battle will be over in Brazil.)

The thing with Vettel is that he has a dicey engine situation already and with two races to go, that engine could go at any time...
Brawn BGP 001
Vettel has the better chance, but he is marginal with engines.
