Former motorcycle racer Rob Bron is Monday at the age of 66 deceased. Bron was the first Dutchman who caused a furore in the 500cc grand prix world.

Between 1970 and 1976 Bron rode in the 500cc class. His best year was 1971, when he was the first Dutchman ever to reach the podium. Bron finished second at the TT Assen and ended the year third in the world. Best result ever to achieve by a Dutchman.

In total five times Bron drove to a podium place. A Grand Prix win he never succeeded. Bron drove in the 500cc class with Suzuki and Yamaha bikes. In 1973 he also rode in the 250cc and 350cc class. With a couple of years in between he raced until 1985.

From 1985 until 2004 Rob owned a small business selling parts regarding road racing and provided service at the circuits.

I´m very saddened to hear about the passing of a good friend. Rob was a lovely bloke who took time out to help me when I first came to Europe. I was a nobody who remained a nobody, but that made no difference to the way he treated me. Thank you Rob. RIP mate.
Gone, but never forgotten.

"Waar een wiel is, is een weg" (Where a wheel is, is a road) Rob Bron.

Rob started motocross 15 years young in 1958, was Dutch kart (skelter) champion in 1962 & 1963 and came to motorcycle racing in 1964 on a 50cc Tomos with third place in the Dutch junior championship.

We raced together in the 1970 Dutch 50cc international class where Rob ended third in the championship.

Rob you were too fast for me, R.I.P. cry.gif

It's times like this when you think life is unfair taking someone at only 66 years of age. I didn't know much about Rob Bron as he was a bit before my time but through this board I realized how good he was. A sad loss.

RIP ROB
