Full Version: Flat floor, diffuser and hot air

I am currently building truck day car, mid-front engine with rear wheel drive, around 950kg with driver and 250hp engine and I need some help in terms of flat floor, exhausts and cooling. Car is equipped with flat floor and rear diffuser.

Can you explain me if there is any advantage/disadvantage of directing hot air from radiator under the floor. Radiator is about 50 cm after the front bumper and I can choose to direct hot air through the bonnet or under the floor.
The same question is for exhaust gasses. Should I put them under the floor or at the rear of the car above the diffuser?

The cooling air should be directed through the hood or on the sides of the car, not under the car. In general you want the hot low density air to stay away from wings and downforce generating devices.

Route the exhaust to the rear or to the sides of the car. The flow can be used in the diffuser if you inject it directly in the diffuser, but that will also make the downforce levels dependant on throttle position.

Didn't mclaren try sometime? It made car very unstable, when a driver had to lift he also lost downforce.
the way I understand it is you want as les air as possible under the car. try to seal the sides and use a splitter in front. put a fan in the back and you can drive upside down! ;) (don't try it)

The blown diffuser was common in the early GE F1 era, Mac just stayed with the concept the longest.
