I just launched a prediction competition called GT IndyCar (Guess the IndyCar) for this year in RC Bets & Games. I'd love you to take a look on that smile.gif

Well, they aren't getting any money from Phillip Morris, but are probably contracted to have the logos on the car for 2010. So this is the way they're phasing out Marlboro.

Turns out I'm wrong, there is no more Marlboro connection at all. The Team Penske logos are on the 3 and 6, because they have title no sponsors. (Verizon is only sponsoring the 12)

If Penske is having trouble securing sponsorship for arguably 2 of the best 5 drivers on the grid, Indycar is in deep ****.

Have a bad feeling the series won't make it to 2012. frown.gif

Not sure if this is the correct thread to post this but I got a 'call to vote' from Lola encouraging everyone to vote for their 2012 Indy Racing car design proposal.

Vote Lola!
Hi,

I trust that this mail finds you well,

You may be aware that Lola has recently released their proposal to design, build and supply the all new Indy Racing car for 2012 and you may review the details by visiting http://www.lola-group.com/newsstory.asp?NewsId=190

After revealing the concepts two weeks ago, Lola has received many positive direct responses from fans and racers across the world and we currently enjoy a circa 39% majority vote in the polls.

If you would like to support Lola then we would ask you to take just a few moments of your time to vote for the Lola proposal by clicking on the following link - http://tinyurl.com/yfhu257

Thank you in advance for your support.

So...I have looked ALL OVER that damn IndyCar website to find the practice and qualifying airtime for their stream next weekend.
Could I find it?
Hell no..

Anyone know where to find the times?

It feels like it doesn't matter how it goes anymore, my thoughts are with all those fantastic young American drivers who have been ridiculed and thrown into the cold by oil money from Venezuela, and ridiculous pay drivers from all over the world. Rahal, Summerton, Hildebrand, Edwards... I salute you ohwell.gif

SO NOW RANDY BERNARD! Ensure that IMS pays for some US drivers to take part, I'm so fed up with all those f*cking Latin American b*stard $$$ drivers mad.gif

Allegedly Rahal is turning down multi year contracts because he has a lot of sponsorship money for next year and plans on taking it to Ganassi

Graham should book himself in for the operation - that's obviously the way you get a drive these days tongue.gif

I started following IndyCar as a five year old kid that loved what his Dad loved, the year was 1963. I've never been so ambivalent about the start of the season. Hopefully next weekend some excitement will set in.

Then surely that's for a third car - since from what I have heard, both Franchitti and Dixon are signed up for 2011, as for Dixon I'm 100 % about it.

It seems we have another BATmobile pitched for the new Indycar concept.

Kinda reminds me of the Lotus 80... only with a larger front wing.

It looks... okay, I still like the Swift design best.

Some interesting designs going on, no doubt they will end up choosing the most uninspiring, status quo design or status quo itself.

I think its hideous - only should be used in a Gotham City street race by Milka Duno.

Brian, I have to agree with you there. Especially since I can't get verses, so I'll only be able to see two or three races on tv at best this year. Coupled with the disaster F1 has become, how boring Nascar is with a handful of drivers/teams dominating the series, and the faltering economy beating other racing series into submission, I'm begining to fear for the future of this sport I have loved since I was a little boy.

Sadly, right now I'd bet against 2012 right now. As noted by B Squared, my Dad loved Indy racing and got me involved in 1970 (when I was 9). Barber MSP is only a 4 hour drive for me, but I've just lost interest.

Anyways, heres a quote from Robin Miller at speedtv

QUOTE
RM: Tim Cindric said it's unlikely the type of sponsorship required by The Captain can be found for this season but they're still searching so one would assume RP is paying, although I find it hard to believe because he's always been too clever to spend his own money. But you raise a good point. Paul Newman couldn't find a sponsor for the second car at NHL and now the most successful owner in the paddock has two empty sidepods.
Redstorm
Good deal younger than you guys, but same here. Born and bred into the sport and the Penske situation is something that I would never contemplate happening.

Less than one week until the start of the season and I had to drag this thread up from page three, a lot of enthusiasm out there, eh? Trust me, I'm in the same place.

I think at least part of it is not much news to report, or comment on. Starting the season out of the country means no one here will likely be at the race. And I for one don't know much about many of the newest drivers. And I don't have Versus. Still going to Birmingham . . .

IndyCar have been running a survey for Indy Nation members asking for opinions on all the new proposals. Although it's not completely accurate as the Dallara cars are not what were originally displayed, and instead look like a second attempt that cribs the lines from Swift's proposals.

I voted for the Swift's and the Delta Wing and thoroughly trashed Dallara, and hope it has the desired effect.

I would be massively impressed if 'Jeremy' Rossiter made it onto the grid. He's knocking on a bit now and i don't see how his Touring Car experience from the 70's will help him in a modern Single Seater...... wink.gif

I had a friend that told me about this to. That the Dallaras had paint schemes on them from current teams and how they looked so much better than the others. Luckily my friends did the same thing as you, Delta Wing and Swift and then put the Dallaras at the bottom. I feel a little sorry for Dallara in that the reason some people are trashing them is only because of Barnhart and his blatant support of them. I think most people don't like it because they aren't as nice as the other designs

There's a virtual lap of Sao Paulo available. It's available on indycar.com or just on youtube.

I think the commentary is a bit optimistic about overtaking opportunities, especially RE the long straight.

Well the irl report does look very bleak, but I did find one nugget of good news in there.
Somebody is crazy enough to give 13 shows on Speed to Paul Tracy to thrash some supercars, now that *will* be entertaining.
I wonder what the odds are on him totalling at least one of them.

FWIW, I certainly wouldn't for a moment lay the blame at the Latin American drivers, or even the Latin American companies for sponsoring their drivers and providing enough money for them to go racing. A more telling symptom is simply the lack of sponsor money available to support US drivers competing in open wheel, particularly in what is supposed to be the premiere US open wheel series. The problem lies within...
