This is Heidfeld's problem though, I mean he's great ina chaotic race and collects points in middling cars as a result but whenever BMW has looked on for a win on merit/pace alone, it's Kubica that's doing it. Kubica was super fast yesterday.

Heidfeld will find a drive for sure, team owners canniot be that dumb. Toyota should have gone all out for Alonso and nabbed Heidfeld as well.

Good picture.

RK: I reckon we can find additional 3 tenths with a different setup
NH: That would give us fair chance for starting from a 7th row..
RK: crap
NH: agreed.

I think Nick Heidfeld is an excellent racing driver.

The thing that bothers me is how he comes across as a bitter man. This all started when McLaren chose Kimi instead of him. I think a better thing for him would have been to just shut up about it and keep working, instead of telling everyone how bitter he is about that. It's not like Kimi or McLaren stole anything from him.

Now with Kubica the same thing happens - he is again publicly bitter about his team-mate getting praised.

I think his personality is quite close to my personality, in fact. I mean the way he is (most of the time) very modest and quiet. That's what I do as well. In this respect I can relate to him very well. It is in our nature and it isn't going away. But I don't relate to the way he is publicly so bitter about everyone else getting more attention than he does. He has that personality and it's not going anywhere any time soon. He is modest and quiet, and that sort of a personality isn't very good in advertising himself. I know I have suffered from this as well - I am not good at advertising my skills and knowledge, so people can get the false impression that the guys who know less than me and do a poorer job than me are better than me when they in fact are not. I see this is the problem Nick is having. And it is likely never going to change. Perhaps he needs some pro PR people to help him fix his image - I think it is obvious by now he alone is unable to do it - he is hurting himself more than doing good, so he should shut up about it and let someone else help him with the image problem he is having.

Nick is probably right when he says he isn't getting the attention he would deserve. But the way he goes about to fix that isn't helping, it's just hurting him, in my humble opinion.

That picture was taken after Monaco qualifying.

The F1.09 was at its crappest then.

This guy deserves a good car and at least a win somewhere along the line.

Fantastic dwiver

I will have a word to Martin Whitmarsh to see if i can line him up for the Mclaren next year. Nick Heidfeld WDC 2010 for sure. Look what happened to Button.

I would love to see him at McLaren. He's a fantastic driver. With Ron no longer around, Nick has a very good chance of getting the drive. MW and Haug just publicly praised him! You don't say stuff like that if there wasn't anything going around behind the back.

He is going to McLaren

I seriously cannot wait.

This would be the best F1 news I've heard in a very long time.

Nick makes perfect sense.

Fast, consistent, inexpensive and delivers the results.

Would be a very smart decision.

Come on, Nick hardly sucks.

He may never be a World Champion, but he's a very solid pro.

A team like McLaren thought they were getting one of those in Kovalainen but he's been no good.

Nick would be the perfect solution.

Careful guys, it's just speculation from two German newspapers at the moment. But I would love to see it happen.

ok, I don't want to initiate another NH/RK flame, so... yes you are right, he has beaten everyone, when not, then he has the worse car for sure. EOT.

To be on topic:
Nick in Macca, I would more Kimi (very possible) in macca and nick in renault (pretty not possible because Glock seems to "almost have" the seat).
Heidfeld and Cowboyashi in Toyota? Why not?

You're right, and I think it's a fairly speculative story, and the Whitmarsh quotes aren't new.

Story is here..

http://www.bild.de/BILD/sport/motorsport/2...aeikoennen.html

Basically says F1 remains exciting even though championship decided. Half of all drivers are looking for new job including the Germans Nick, Timo Glock and Sutil. Says the reason for the flood of changes is BMW's departure from F1 and Toyota is thinking aboutn leaving. Points out that there are places with Renault, Brawn, Mclaren and Williams still up for grabs plus the four new teams registered for 2010. Says Kimi is key player, and he says McLaren is an option. That would push out Kovalainen, who is looking at Renault. But German drivers are queuing up at the french team. Glock and Heidfeld have applied. Sutil is supposedly in talks too. Quote from Heidfeld: "You try to get the best place available - that is what we are doing at the moment." Rosberg can be calm the story says, he has a contract with Brawn-Mercedes in the bag. Barrichello going to Williams. He'll team up with German newbie Nico Hulkenberg there. Says new Spanish team Campos is in talks with Bruno Senna and Nelson Piquet Jr.

When the article states that the reason is Hamilton's objection to Kimi or Rosberg, I knew it was BS.
NO driver gets to dictate to the team. They are employees and do as they are told. USGP '05 was proof.

I never said NH has not been beaten by someone in the same car. Not sure why you got so agressive.

Heidfeld at Mclaren makes perfect sense and I would welcome that news. He certainly can deliver and him and Hamilton driving together doesn't sound much like 2007 all over again for the Woking team.

Yes - but can you imagine Heidfeld giving trouble to the golden boy at Maclaren?
My palms get sweaty from excitement on the shear thought!!! And I think he would be capable of doing some damage given good race engineer.

Great news if true. up.gif
He is one of the few drivers who won´t be mentally intimidated by Hamilton, and if the car suits him, he will be more than a match for his team mate on track.

He should be an excellent #2 to Hamilton.

McLaren should grab him. Fast #1 driver + consistent #2 will make a great team.

Absolutely. Kovalainen doesn't score anywhere near enough points to allow McLaren to be competitive for 1st in the WCC. You need a backup driver who can score when #1 driver has a bad race, and Kova never provides that cover. I think Heidfeld would consistently score points, maybe not wins, but just provide that backup to the #1 driver that Lewis was missing in 2008.
metz
The last time Heidfeld was hired (at $1mil/yr) as a backup driver, to Webber (at $6mil/yr), was at Williams in '05
And Nick edged him out on points, podiums and fastest laps.
The world would come to an end if happened to Hamilton... smoking.gif

Its looking good for nick. Hamilton is a bit unsure of him still though. He still wants Kovalainen or a Grosjean type. Ill have a word to Anthony. Nick wants equal status at Mclaren
Bouncing Pink Ball
If not Kimi to McLaren, then I want to Nick there. I've always liked him, plus I'm curious to see if he can deliver if he's given a spot in a typical front-running team.

However, the linked story smells bad. I wouldn't take that as even rumour fodder.

Um, if Macca wanted\wants Kimi (thus proving they're not afraid to challenge Hamilton) why would they settle for Nick and not Nico, Robert or Sebastian? A sudden switch from high performance to high reliability doesn't make much sense.

Possibly because Nico, Robert and Sebastian are already under contract with other teams?

ouu lol.gif touche` roflmao.gif

heidfeld wins = 0 smile.gif I think he just isn't the kind of guy to make an "IMPRESSION". that's his problem. and if cudn't make that impression in like what (x-years [don't even care to know it]) like ages, he sure wudn't be able to do anything about it anytime later.

Its time for him to say wave.gif and make space for some other good guy. Heidfeld in itself was a great talent, and i've got absolutely nothing against him, but he just cudn't get it together. Accept it! lol.gif

I assure you that Nico is signed, sealed and delivered to Brawn several months ago. Sebastian was confirmed several months ago at Red Bull, and I am referring to 'NOW', where Robert is not available, and neither you nor I have any idea how much Roberts and McLarens representation have been talking before Robert signed for Renault.

Fact is that

Robert is not available
Nico is not available
Sebastian is not available

The available and real option drivers for the McLaren seat currently held by Heiki are

Heikki
Kimi
Nick

Kimi may go for money at Toyota, Heikki have really not performed well enough to hold on to the seat.

Nick Heidfeld makes a lot of sense for a lot of reasons. Including the fact that he will not take the number 1 status away from Lewis.

I think you will find Nick was the rookie when he outscored a previously successful Alesi.
Kimi was in his first year, Nick in his second, both new to Sauber.
Webber was top dog at Williams.
JV the incumbent and a WDC.

Guaging performance in a mid field car on points is useless, they are so hard to come by that you can luck into them and look a genius.

I like Heidfeld but based on 05 I put Webber in my car, not Heidfeld, especially if it's a front runner.

At the same time, Webber wa sleading Vettel mid way through this year and I'd have had Vettel in the car ... he just LOOKED quicker and more likely to deliver over 18 races at the front.

Metz, you'll know this.

What happened with Nick at Sauber in 2003?

Frentzen did better for some reason and Nick was flicked in favour of Fisichella and Massa.
