Piquet recently confirmed that there was a chance for Alonso to drive for ferrari this year, which is something that has already been reported ..

"It was Briatore looking for an extension. I, instead, wanted Nelsinho not to race with Renault anymore. I had already found for him a seat at Toro Rosso with [Gerhard] Berger.

"But Nelsinho wanted to stay at Renault in 2009, because there was the chance that Alonso would go to Ferrari. Briatore convinced him that he would make him test. With the clause, however, that if he didn't score at least 40% of Alonso's points by mid season, the contract could be terminated."

just a question?
This thread was started because KR apparantly said Alonso paid for his seat. Is it true (that he actually said this)? Is there proof, besides the 1 article?

Everyone in Formula 1 paddocks knows that only reason why Alonso is in Ferrari is because Santander offered to sponsor them next 5 years with hundreds of million dollars.

*edit:
wait, the extension was to drive in 2009 or 2010? I can't remember if his original contract was- 2 or 3yrs.

The extension was for two more years, 2009 and 2010.
