1. 2003 (three drivers from three different teams fighting for the title - when was the last time this happend?.. can't recall)
2. 2008 (because of the last race it has to be up there - great drives by Lewis and Massa)
3. 2007 (good battle between mclaren and ferrari)
4. 2006 (Alonso kicking Shumi's butt and his incredible consistency)
5. 2005. (great drives by Montoya and Kimi, Alonso flawless)
6. 2002 (Montoya's poles and battles with Shumi)
7. 2001 (having DC as a title contender was kind of boring... )
8. 2009 (Button is boring but he drove very well today.. Webber/Vettel/Rubens didn't do much better)
9. 2004 (Boring except for Brazilian GP and Monaco.. some very good drives by Alonso & Montoya)
craftverk
2005 wasn't that good imo.

I think I'll go with 2003.

Where does 2000 fit?
Racing Dutchman
1. 2000 (Hakinnen versus Schumacher, legendary battle, especially Suzuka)
2. 2002 & 2004 (Have we ever seen this kind of dominance apart from 1988?)
3. 2007 (controversy, teammate battles in both top teams, very suprising end)
4. 2008 (last round, last corner, controversy all over, rollercoaster!)
5. 2006 (oldy vs youngster, with incredible battles)
6. 2003 (3 teams, 3 drivers, BS vs Michelin fight rollercoaster, mature Schumi versus kindergarten terrorist Montoya)
7. 2001 (start of a new era, with young drivers entering F1)
8. 2009 (nice season, but just because of new rules)
9. 2005 (new rules aimed just at stopping Ferrari, otherwise it could have been a 3 way battle with 2003 all over again)

PS: look at the amount of points for the champions pre - 2007, 3th and 4th places from those seasons would easily beat WDC pionts tally in the last years. F1 was of a higher level to my opinion back then. Maybe we need a new common F1 benchmark (aka new Schumacher) to get seasons again that see drivers contesting for WDC finish in top 4 every race.

I would agree with this, except maybe 2002 for 2004.

1 2007. Full of surprises and who would have thought kimi would grab it on last race
2 2008 very tragical season wasnt it and what a way to end it
3 2005 renault v mclaren kimi very aggressive loved that season
4 2003 3 way title fight, ferrari rises to the top biggrin.gif
5 2006 Ferrari V renault was a fiercy championship
postajegenye
2006, I loved it.

Both Alonso and Schumacher had some really good drives, they stood out and it was a great fight between two great drivers. They actually RACED each other on track, with some overtaking taking place. First half of the season belonged to FA and the second to MS.
Close races between them like in Bahrain, Imola or Turkey, great races like Hungary, China or Brazil (which was one of the most emotional races I've seen, for multiple reasons).
There was some scandal and politics (Rascasse, the mass damper issue , Monza quali... ) but still racing prevailed.

Even though im a mclaren fan and we didnt win the year i rank as number 1, and it may sound weird thati haven't chosen 2008 as thats the year we won, i still rate the 2000 season above all by a fair margine. It just had something that every season since then hasn't had. It was just magic, something in the air that season or something.

My favourite season of the 2000s was most definitely 2003. It was one of the most exciting, action-packed and competitive seasons since the 1980s.

The rest? 2000 and 2005 were okay. 2004 had good racing but was very one-sided. 2007/8 were only exciting on the last races, the racing itself was pretty awful. 2009 has been pretty crap for the most part.
MikeTekRacing
for me it has to be 2008...even though I wanted Felipe to win it, in the end all it matters is that it was a great fight between two great drivers...and only one could be WDC.

The 2000 season wasn't a boring season, 2003 was awesome.

2000 Cars looked good back then
2008 Very exciting
2007 again very competitive
2003 also competitive but not as good as 2007
2005 too much reliability problems for merc
2009 alot of race winners
2006 no mclaren wins but atleast wdc was relatively close
2001 boring
2002 boring
2004 boring

2008 - made me age 5 years in one race, but it was just awesome, followed by;
2005 - no politic, no bullshit, just racing;
2003 - lots of winners plus very exciting and unpredictable races;
2000 - biggest clash of the decade;
2007 - so close, yet so far;
2009 - got much better at the halfway mark;
2006 - Schumacher's last hurrah, said goodbye in style;
2001 - Mika's last wins, Montoya comes on scene;
2004 - I hated it with a passion;
2002 - like 2004, but even worse given the A1 Ring debacle and mockery.

2007 was the best just because of its beautiful poetic justice ending

One could argue (and be right) that the 2000s aren't finished yet, since the 2010 season should be included in that list, but...

... on the original poster's terms, I'll pick 2007's 3-way title decider with K.M. Räikkönen winning, over 2008's last race, last lap, last corner win by L.C. Hamilton.

2003 was by far the best year. Many, many different winners and lots of on track action.

Surprised 2007 and 2009 getting so many votes, both had a lot of politics going on off the track but on-track the racing was diabolical for the most part.

Yeah, that season was my all time favorite of this decade. Oustanding racing. Cars look pretty good back then!

2003

Title came down to the last race.

Rubens probably at his peak (his win at Silverstone was awesome)

JPM was great that year.

Kimi took the WDC to the last race (although DC had to assist him at Suzuka)

Fernando lapped Schuey at Hungary smile.gif - funny how the FIA got involved w/ the tyres after THAT race

Schu hit practically everything but the SC wrapping up title at Suzuka roflmao.gif

2007, justice was served.

and 2005 for epic racing

Pretty much agree with this list, which is good. It basically shows F1 has been on an upswing the last 5 years or so, with the exception of 09. Ironically the "pro-overtaking" regulations had the opposite effect and made 2009 pretty boring ohwell.gif The qualifying this year has been very interesting, with so many teams in the mix, but most of the races have been devoid of overtaking unfortunately.

Agreed. Although I can't help feeling somewhat of an old git for saying that the best came at the beginning of the decade and it's all been downhill since!

2008 - Five different teams won races, Hamilton just destroyed field in Silverstone, surprise BMW win in Canada, highly emotional Vettel win in Monza and incredible show in Brazil... Not to mention post-Singapore "surprise" by Piquet snr.
2009 - Up to Hungary it was perfect season to me, then slightly boring...
2005 - Nice drive from Alonso to his first title, McLaren got some speed, but it was too late
2007 - Very scandalous championship
2006 - Last fight from Shumacher
2003 - Good season and last where Williams fighted for championship
