Does anyone else miss him ?

Discovered Alonso and Webber, the one team boss that was really prepared to rip into Max and the FIA, colourful personality etc

Seeing dullards like Whitmarsh, Fry, Howett, Horner and so on this last weekend really made me realise how much Stoddart is missed

maybe dullards, maybe wise enough to know this is the only way to be under Max's regime.

Whitmarsh is a pretty nice guy from what ive read which wasnt a bad thing last time i checked + I think Christian Horner's a pretty decent team boss personality wise. We dont need team bosses arguing with the FIA/bernie all the time.

We need to knock their heads together and make f1 better for the fans, something which Whitmarsh seems to be fairly involved in.

I do miss Stoddard though for his outlandish comments but thats why we have EJ on the BBC! roflmao.gif

Stoddart was a whiner who didn't contribute much to F1. Webber and Alonso would have made it anyway, Stoddart just had place. Remember he also gave us Marquez, Young, Friesacher, Kiesa, Bruni, Baumgartner, Doornbos and Albers.

Biggest difference is that he was willing to stump up his own cash to go racing, all the others listed (Fry?,Did he put money into Brawn) are just employees.

Not in the slightest.

Don't EVER put Howett in the same category as Whitmarsh, Fry, and Horner.

That man is far too dumb to be in that category. He is an absolute clownish spectacle.

I thought that was Sauber - not Minardi. You are thinking of Spain 2002 where they had 3 wing failures - including one on race day in the warm up

QUOTE
Minardi withdrew from the Spanish Grand Prix on Sunday because of fears that their front and rear wings are unstable.

Two crashes on Saturday saw the team's front wings fail and a further incident in the warm-up for the race resulted in the rear wing flying off Mark Webber's car.

Team boss Paul Stoddart admitted after qualifying on Saturday that all the team's front wings had been sent back to the factory at Faenza in Italy for a modification, but the team decided to withdraw on Sunday morning following the incident with Webber.

"This particular wing has been stressed to two times the load of what was expected at this circuit," Stoddart said. "Why it happened I feel is a one-off manufacturer problem."

Nevertheless, Stoddart said the team would not be racing as a measure of precaution. "This has been a tough decision and I really feel for Mark and Alex (Yoong). This has not been a good weekend for the team.

"After the amount of effort involved with modifications to the front wing it is disappointing this incident has happened, but we have to pull out on safety grounds. It would have been irresponsible to continue until we had been able to take everything back to the factory and investigate the problem."

I will never forgive PS for the crap he pulled in Austaralia with the courts - the lies he told about his cars not being able to be ready and wow and behold, suddenly they are

yes - as I said, in Spain 2002 - he didnt' have much choice when Webber's had the 3rd wing failure in the morning warm up. Good that he did it, but he's not the first to have done it

Still a tosser IMO

Once he'd bought Minardi he invested very little. I'd be surprised if he lost any money between the purchase and sale.

I still miss him for his clashes he had with Max, besides they were hilarious roflmao.gif , whether you loved him or hated him.

Yeah, quite true. His team actually made two chassis? One for 01, the other for 02, which was then used for the next few years.

I originally thought Stoddart was great for F1 then he started to say he couldn't finish the year in 2002 because he didn't get the then bankrupt Prost's commercial money (which he felt entitled to), which was odd considering Minardi in 02 looked far more financially sound than many previous years in its history (getting free engines and all).

He was originally going to set up the HQ for his OzJet venture in Adelaide but just as the State Government grant money was being finalised based on the jobs it would create, Stoddart demanded new terms, wanting more money for less jobs. The Government rightly told him to get stuffed.

Regardless of how much people liked his opinions and stand on issues, Stoddart was incredibly cheap, and had no interest in moving his team forward outside of conning someone else to pay for it.

Lol yeah I remember Stoddart saying something like "the way things are going is unfair, but I don't have the money to afford lawyers to go to court." He said that as an owner of European Aviation!
