Button's WDC a New Record ( for the wrong reason)
Before 2009, A driver who has won a WDC has won a Race before his 100th GP
Thats how it has been ever since F1 world championship existed

Now Button has changed that record
He won his first race in his 110th (somewhere) race

Can anyone list all WDC and a show us when they won their first GP clap.gif

You should also list all those that won earlier, but never won a WDC.

the ones without WDC are not relevant

I remember Brundle babbling all the time in the race were Button was on his 100th(with a blue BAR car in china)

Wrong, unless my maths are way, way off, Mika Hakkinen ran around 107 (105 to 108, I'm unsure on some did-not-qualify ones) races before he won Jerez in 1997.

[EDIT] Well. off they were.
1991 - 16 races
1992 - 16 races
1993 - 4 races (oops)
1994 - 15 races
1995 - 15 races
1996 - 16 races
1997 - 16 races as non-winner then blam! Race win!
So thats...
98 winless drives. Short of 100 for sure. ohwell.gif

The first 2 were gifts, so it was 100 before he got a "proper" win.

exactly, if it was not for Schumy's stunt at that GP he wouldnot have won until next race
so it must have made it 99th race....Damn close for sure! lol.gif

Thanks for the figures. Interesting to see that most WDCs (22 in total) won their first race before reaching 40 GPs.

Could someone find the number of career wins for each WDC as well?
R2D2
Let's wait and see who's going to be in car 22 next year. They have a good chance of winning the 2010 WDC, especially if they end up 5th at Interlagos...

How many races did Mansell have at Hungaroring 1992?
How many does Button have now?

You want to know it for the "most races until becoming Champion", isn't it?

Well, I've counted 176 starts (there were a few DNQ and DNS that I didn't count). So it still took longer for Mansell than for Button to become a WDC (Button has 171 or so).
