In all the Vatanen vs Todt threads has anyone else wondered why there is only 2 candidates ? Is there only 2 people out of 6+ billions interested in becoming the president of the FIA or is it limited by some process that has be followed through to become a candidate ? The FIA does a lot more than just overseeing a few motorsport series, it is deeply involved in road car safety and other things that have nothing or little to do with racing so why only 2 candidates and both coming from the racing world ?

After so many years when there was only one candidate (in the best tradition of the totalitarian regimes), two candidates (different from the present Mr. President) is an achievement in itself.

Yes.

Part of the problem is that the canidate also has to nominate their list of deputies and vice-president at the same time. The most likely canidates are likely also to be required to fill those spots and can't be in a list while also putting themselves forward.

This was another MM move to make it more difficult to oust him from his position.
