Would any of the statistitions here have stats for the race finishing positions of the person who wins the WDC in the race in which they clinched the WDC?

It would be interesting to see how many times they won that race, or even finished on the podium.

Well, both times he won in showdowns weren't exactly stellar performances, retiring and 8th. He won confortably when he knew he had more chances to clinch the title. Thats the impression i get from those stats.

in 2003 he started from 14th position after getting unlucky in rain in quly(with one lap quly we had back then)
and he had his F Wing taken off by some kamakazi ...and still finished 8th!...what a bad performance rolleyes.gif

1994 one showdown race he cocked it up and he gets the title of bad under pressure! lol.gif

Well I didnt remember what happened in 2003, but it does stand out that the only showdown he won in his ferrari dominance years is an 8th place while those that arent showdowns are 1st and 2nd in one case.

Also interesting to point out that in other showdowns drama always happened, whether he won or lost. 1997, trying to crash Villeneuve, 1998 the car stalled and then the tyre exploded, 1994 he almost lost the car and because of that he collided with Hill in the next turn, 2006 technical issues in qualifying, then a puncture in the race and according to what you say in 2003 pretty much the same happened (bad qualifying, forced pit stop)

There is definetely a pattern here biggrin.gif Never a clean race either by his fault or the cars' fault. its interesting, you gotta admit ;)

In 1997 he was in a showdown and bottled it when Villeneuve had a quicker car.
In 1998 he was in a showdown and stalled on the grid.

Actually in 94 he retired while getting passed by the man who could beat him that day after he had hit the wall smile.gif

Siskue
i agree with 97

but in 98 there was a clutch/ECU problem in his car which caused the stalling
and he pushed like hell from back to reach effectively 2nd ...and had a puncture which is not his fault
but still the numerous other races he had produced while under immense pressure surely overshadow this 2 races

which doesnot prove anything like cracking under pressure

he has never cracked under pressure like Lewis has in the past 2 yrs

frankly he has been under title showdown for more than any top F1 driver....so one or two times he is bound to fail

In this case it was Schumi who made an amateur attempt.
Nothing kamikaze by Sato at all, he just kept his line.
