It looked so very good to flick through the EPG on my television and see all the pratice sessions showing on the red button channels... I might even watch FP2 this weekend, which will potentially be the full extent of Friday practice I get to see this year until Brazil (Oh, and Silverstone but not on TV)! Nice to know it's available anyway.

Their new website looks as though it will carry a decent amount of content too, even if their Toyota Ten to Tackle feature only seems to mark your score out of nine...

But on the EPG are the live practice sessions on 301 or 302? My EPG is blank and I need to know which one to record?!

Anybody know if the 'classic oz gp' thats currently on the red button is highlights or full race? I'm trying to work out when the next loop starts so I can watch from the start.

Highlights.
Ross Stonefeld
I think 86 and 94 are 'full length' so like 35-45 minutes and 91/96 are short-form, and I think 2007 is too.
wewantourdarbyback
We're a reasonable way through '94 now, Hakkinen's just crashed out.

Stand corrected, I thought they were all highlights, either short or extended.
stevvy1986
Think 86 and 94 are the original 'Grand Prix' highlights programme as broadcasted at the time, with 91 being about 6 mins long, same with 96 and 07 (if i'm right 07 has the 5Live commentary)

oh, nice, i thought it was just the one race on a loop. up.gif up.gif
stevvy1986
Originally i think it was going to be the winning race having the original full highlights programme looped, and the rest getting short highlights, but as 86 and 94 were so close in votes, they decided to make the original full highlights programme available for both 86 and 94

If anyone is trying to get the red button service on Windows Vista Media Center (probably the same on XP too) you will be unable to access it by either going to channel 301 or 302 directly or scrolling through the channels. This is because access to these channels is disabled by Windows.

To enable access to these channels do this:

Run Regedit.

Navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Media Center\Service\GLID

Edit value: ExclusionList

Remove 301 and 302.

Close regedit

Restart Media Center

Do a scan in Media Center to find new channels.

Go to Live TV and type or scroll to 301 or 302. Just done this myself and I'm watching the BBC Aus classics and recording it to my PC.

I wanted the 301 (red button service) so that I could run it on my laptop whilst watching the main channel on my TV. wink.gif

Hope this helps!

Cool, esp the driver laps. - seems to have the aus gp reruns on there too tho I didnt dare press as i'm at work, so i may be wrong.

coverage looks like it could be very good. only slight concern is the commentator bloke (Legard?) seems like he might be a bit of a c*ck (junior). Yesterday in his blog he was saying he felt lewis could be champion even if he didnt have a top car which is fanboy bs of the highest order; and today in the PC he was asking Kubica questions about kers that were already public knowledge. Hope I'm wrong - couldnt bear another Allenesque idiot.

You'll need some sort of TV tuner card or dongle.

IF YOU ARE IN THE UK:
Australian Grand Prix
Thursday
21:00 to 22:00 - 5 Live Formula One (BBC Radio 5 Live)
- David Croft, Anthony Davidson and Holly Samos preview the 2009 season.

Friday
01:25 to 03:05 - Live Formula One: Practice 1 (BBC Red Button, BBC Radio 5 Live Xtra and online)
- commentary for Practice 1 is from David Croft and Anthony Davidson
05:25 to 07:05 - Live Formula One: Practice 2 (BBC Red Button, BBC Radio 5 Live Xtra and online)
- commentary for Practice 2 is from Maurice Hamilton and Ian Phillips
- both sessions will be put on the BBC F1 website I believe; however, no word of a Loop on the Red Button
18:45 to 19:00 - Formula One News (BBC News Channel, BBC Red Button [18:30 to 18:45])
- a review of the days events
21:30 to 22:00 - 5 Live Formula One (BBC Radio 5 Live)

Saturday
02:55 to 04:05 - Live Formula One: Practice 3 (BBC Red Button, BBC Radio 5 Live Xtra and online)
04:05 to 05:00 - Formula One News (BBC News Channel, BBC Red Button)
05:00 to 07:15 - Live Formula One: Qualifying (BBC ONE, BBC Red Button, BBC Radio 5 Live Xtra and online)
- from what I've seen on the Red Button schedule, I believe Practice 3 and Qualifying are on a rolling loop from 07:15 on Saturday until 06:00 on Sunday
13:00 to 14:15 - Formula One: Qualifying (BBC ONE, BBC Red Button and online)

Sunday
06:00 to 09:00 - Live Formula One: Race (BBC ONE, BBC Red Button, BBC Radio 5 Live and online)
09:00 to 10:00 - Live Formula One: Interactive Forum (BBC Red Button and online)
13:00 to 15:00 - Formula One: Race (BBC ONE, BBC Red Button and online)
- from what I've seen on the Red Button schedule, I believe the Race will be on a rolling loop from 10:00 on Sundday until 06:00 on Tuesday
19:00 to 20:00 - Formula One: Highlights (BBC THREE and online)

For Freeview viewers, from what I'm told, all sessions this weekend are on Channel 302! Interactive forum is on 301!

Quick FAQ guide that I've compiled in case anyone doesn't want to scroll through several pages.

Q: Will onboard be available for all sessions?
A: No. The onboard feed will definitely be available for the race, however, there is currently a question mark about whether it will be available for qualifying.

Q: Do BBC have the rights for GP2?
A: Yes, but they have decided to "farm" it out to another broadcaster. Although no broadcaster has yet been confirmed, Setanta Sports and Eurosport are currently the front runners.

Q: I've heard about a mosaic screen... what is this?
A: This is only for Freeview viewers, where they are a lack of channels. Sky viewers will get full screen onboard, but due to lack of space, Freeview will get a split screen with the World Feed, Timing and Onboard on one page.

Q: Is "The Chain" returning?
A: Yes.

Q: I am unhappy with the level of coverage BBC are providing, and wish to complain.
A: Click here.

So they will have an online stream a la ITV?

Correct. If watching via the website, I'd suggest refreshing this and this in the minutes leading into the session.

There shouldn't be any problems with the quality.... last year at Australia the online stream overloaded the servers, but that's definitely not going to happen tonight.

You do realise don't you D.M.N. that the race can't be on a rolling loop from Saturday at 9am unless the GP organisers have been keeping a secret from us all, and that the race is actually on Saturday wink.gif

I am right in thinking the onboard channel will be streamed on it's own online, but only for the race?

I guess I'll be screwed again tomorrow and relying on JustinTv again....

What's your licence fee got to do with the company you work at having their proxy server based in the US? Would you be happy if the yanks could watch online for free so you can watch at work?

If you're company uses an USA IP address, then you won't be able to get it.

Some interesting answers to the BBC's driver profiles,

Which famous person - dead or alive - would you like to have dinner with and why?
Kimi - No one: I do not have any idol.
Webber: Hitler - I'd ask him why.

Apart from a house what is the most expensive thing that you own?
Heikki: I've never owned a car or any bikes or any Ski-doos or anything like that - so it will have to be my house.

How would you like to be remembered as an F1 driver?
Kubica: I don't care.

Thank God for Webber, more personality than the rest of the grid combined, it seems.
