It was the first time I heard the radio commentary, and geez, it's a blast! There is a gang atmosphere going on but it's still very accurate and technical. And it completely lacks the full-on 'typical sport commentary' vibe ITV had. Ant was GREAT.
I mentioned earlier that while this BBC style was nice, it is NOT going to continue when the morons take over for BBC 1 (Humphreys, EJ, DC...). It will be a Lewis love affair as usual.
In fact, I am now missing James Allen more than ever. His weblog and twitter service are arguably the most detailed and comprehensive F1 news services available online in this present time. Maybe he was never cut out for primetime commentary per se, but his notoriety these days, plus the evolution of the digital age, will see his knowledge and passion for the sport continue to improve his popularity. If he was signed up by the Beeb to maybe host the show when Humphreys leaves to become a panelist on X Factor, then I would not be disappointed.

I don't remember clearly everything else he said so don't want to put words in his mouth, but IIRC he wasn't overly criticial, more along the lines of F1 could either take or leave Senna at the moment.
I must say I did totally disagree with David Croft's slaverings that we really really should have the Senna name back in F1.
Whilst being one of Ayrton Senna's biggest fans, I couldn't give a stuff if nobody associated with him ever came close to sitting in an F1 car.

wow you are miserable aren't you-they aren't morons (you have nothing to base that comment on,if anything i'd wonder if you were referring to yourself with the moron comment), you don't know it'll be a lewis love affair (thats just your miserably negative opinion),allen is better as a writer/pit reporter, not a presenter(that'd be proven if he ever did present anything),you slag humphreys off for no actual reason (any reason you give is likely to be a pathetic reason), and the x factor panelist comment is stupid and childish (a bit like how you come across strangely enough)

James Allen is a good
journalist and
pit lane reporter.
James Allen is a bad
commentator.
Let's judge the TV team after tomorrow and Sunday's show, OK? Same goes for Legard.
Some things we can conclude from today:
1) All sessions will be looped on the Red Button for about 24 hours give or take.
2) All sessions will be put online in full after it has happened (BBC F1 for practice; BBC iPlayer for qualifying/race)

Ant was great. I liked his comments on the type of circuits they are (I never knew that Albert Park was front-limited and Sepang rear-limited) and he's quite witty.
The other guy, the main guy, was a bit boring but when Brundle takes over it will be fine.
Also

@ coverage - I'm watching the Practices on the red-button for about the 4th time
Am I right in thinking they've not put the full FP2 replay online? I appreciate it's on red button currently and I know I'm being picky, but I can't see it anywhere.

You're not being picky I don't think, some bits are hidden away. I think the Beeb will need to create dedicate video page after Melbourne along with a dedicated News page.

The ones where I've put "likely to be screened in quali programme", I suggest you don't watch if you are really keen on seeing new original content in qualification. As I think I noted several weeks ago, some of the TV content will be put online hours before it goes to air.

They just need to add sections full of links down the left hand side of the page, one for videos, and one for blogs would be a good start.

Damn no add breaks in the FP2 loop

How am I going to get a beer from the fridge now? Luckily the cars all stopped going around. It's great to watch FP at home on the tv on Friday after work, what a start to the weekend. Well done BBC.
Anthony Davidson is really good as well. He says a few umms and errs and ahhs but considering he is very good to listen too and I don't find that too distracting at all. He's a natural ! He'll only get better with time too.
Very impressed up to now. Best thing will be Sunday and no adverts though. The advert brakes on ITV seemed to get more and longer over the years. One thing for ITV they did raise the bar so that BBC had to go a lot higher. So hats off to them too!
Very pleased. ( you may have spotted

)
And I have been turning slowly into Victor Meldrew for the last few years!

Andy

Don't get me wrong, I found Webber's visit to the bushfire victims quite touching, but really what has that got to do with F1?
I know the populace cringed when Louise Goodman made pasta with Trulli, and I hope the BBC are not going to go down the similar route with their pre-action fillers. It seemed to me that the BBC were trying to cater for the casual viewer, just as ITV used to do (although obviously BBC's demographic is kind of middle class, and not lowest common denominator like ITV, so adjustments have to be made in precisely the type of filler they produce).
How long do we get for the build-up for the qualifying and race programmes?

I'm not sure I'd class the Webber feature "lifestyle" seeing as the bushfire itself made world news.

Great Parctice coverage made it better, as I had a home study so I went online to watch the highlights for five minutes and ended up watchine 3 hours of coverage.
The lightning was to provide a visual representation of KERS ;)
I didn't think it was too bad also feel that the coverage has been great considering its only been FP1 and 2 so far! Don't know what you guys that are complaining were expecting!

Nah, I had already seen that stuff on the website all week. I am disappointed they recycled stuff. Do they think we are stupid that we won't notice it is just regurgitated?
Its better than we have ever got before though. In all honesty I think we should at least let the actual tv team have a go before we shoot them down. Also 90% of the viewers will not have seen it all. Its one of the problems with keeping as informed as possible.

plus given its an early morning race weekend, alot will either record and flick through pre quali/pre race so not see it anyway, or only wake up just in time for quali/race-once its at a normal time (eg european races) alot less will likely be repeated from the website during quali/race buildup
