Another thought, I reckon they need to bring Jonathan Legard into the preshow more.
In the past hour we've seen interviews with Murray Walker and Martin Brundle in the pits.
I think they need to let Legard express his personality a bit more and the viewer to become more familiar with him.

Jake just has a boyish face. He is very good at this role.
He is completely comfortable, even when Steve Cram and Redgrave didn't notice him, he passed it off with natural flair.
Steve Ryder was an old guard gimp who added nothing whatsoever. I always though Jim Rosenthal was better than Ryder. I have never understood why the BBC loved Ryder for years and why ITV signed him.

Jordan's interview with the Prince was an utter waste of time, it served simply to act as yet another free advert for the Principality.
He "alluded" to only one interesting topic, that of the Grimaldi's relationship with Max Mosely and he still chickened out of asking the question in the way it should have been. It's only a year ago the family had made it clear Mosely wasn't welcome in Monaco and now Jordan just asks if the relationship is fine. He didn't expand at all and should have done. It really is true that people have short memories in F1 and not just for the drivers and races. The teams are yet again paying the price for not insisting Mosely give up the Presidency a year ago, as if he had they wouldn't be in the current budget cap and rules mess.
If it really comes to a series-split it is going to affect Monaco and the whole subject was completely glossed over.

You're being extremely unfair to Ryder. Both are absolute professionals and proved that on many occasions, in Ryders case for many many years. If Ryder or Rosenthal were fronting F1 in 2009 you can rest assured that Eddie Jordan would not be allowed to rattle on ceaselessly or interrupt their flow.
That they are part of an old guard is not disputed, and to be honest I'd rather have a few younger people represented all over TV, but they can't halt the aging process.

To me that reads as one of the most professional sports anchors ever seen on TV coupled with two of the most knowledgeable men in the sport.
You could contrast that with todays coverage anchored by someone who could be on MTV couple with the most boring man ever to sit in an F1 car and one of the biggest pricks ever to own an F1 team...

Rosenthal openly admitted he liked football more than F1. Humphrey clearly has a very good knowledge of Formula 1 as demostrated so far this season, and has blended into the role well. OK, he's made a few minor mistakes but every presenter does that.

Jake said the full version should be put on the website, so it shouldn't be slated.
I think the pre-race is good - there is always going to be one feature that isn't liked as much as the rest; instead of watching and slating it, it should be used for fans as a "toilet break" before the session.
Legard and Brundle did well - my only gripe was towards the end of Q2 when Legard kept saying "Is Button heading out possibly" - it was evident that none of the bottom five were going to pose a realistic challenge.

Possibly (just a guess, could be totally wrong) Jake got told they were cutting to the PC, and then at the last moment was told there was a minor technical glitch and to keep talking for another 30secs or so. As i said, just a guess, could be right, could be wrong. At least he said the whole PC would be on the website. Not like ITV would even mention it, and to be fair, without the red flag, they'd have been able to show more of the PC (though it could be argued that as it was only golf that was the next programme, that they could have over-run for 5-10mins extra)

Come on BBC... you could've shown Raikkonen and Barrichello in the press conference by actually cutting the amount of air time DC and EJ get, who really don't add anything to the coverage at all..

It's all very well saying that it can be watched on the BBC website, but my proxy's down and it won't let me access it from the USA. I'll either have to find it elsewhere - unlikely - or just read the transcript when the FIA publish it.

Right, so your complaining about a feed that you were watching illegally?
I think Legard s problem ( well one of em anyway) is he seems to commentate on the timing screen rather than what the tv screen is showing.
During todays programme he shouted out "heres Button, heres Vettel" for no apparent reason while the pictures was on a long shot of the harbour - presumably he was reacting to the screen he was watching - but it just made him seem stupid.
Quite often he just seems lost for words and so says the first of his 3 or 4 stock phrases that pops into his head - not the ideal qualification for a race commentator.
"Heres Button", "Buttons on a charge", "theres Massa hes on a charge as well, round the corner he goes etc etc.
First and last season I think.
